What has this got to do with the book? Douglas Adams must be spinning

... in his grave. This is absolute crap! WTF?!

reply

DA isn't the best source material for filming so going at it from completely new angle is the best way to tackle it

reply

well said

For you to make that statement, you know little about Douglas Adams, and seemingly little about the book.

reply

bahahahaha, okay

He would be spinning for joy. He would have loved it.

showrunner max landis said in interview you can't directly adapt Adams, you have to make something with the same or similar structure and similar story in his style and hope it works.

Those seven years of MacGyver finally payed off

reply

I'm actually really glad that someone making something like this actually figured this out. Every time they've tried to stick too closely to the source material they've managed to muck it all up in an amazingly awful way.

reply

The tone feels like Adams to me... sorry it doesn't work for you - I loved the pilot... hoping ep 2 is as good.

reply

Was there a broadcast pilot?

reply

I meant the first episode - I don't know if that counts as a pilot or not... I caught it on my cable's BBC On Demand channel.

reply

I love BBC On Demand!

For starters, it has given me all 4 seasons of Orphan Black. :-)

reply

Same here. I just watched the pilot on Netflix. I did not know about that Adam's novel (my bad). But during the whole episode I was like "I know that from somewhere...". First I thought I was comparing it to Doctor Who, but it was actually "The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy"'s style.

reply

Douglas wrote three scripts for Doctor Who and served as script editor for one season on Doctor Who.

reply

who?

reply

Exactly.

reply

See... ^^

reply

So far, this series is much better than his half-baked books.

reply

Yeah, but it's not as good as his fully baked books!

reply

His broiled books were the bomb!

reply

The poached books needed some work, but the rotisseried books are awesome.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

theres a salmon of doubt in all this culinary punnage.

I bought the season on Amazon with the assumption it would be somewhat as good as the last Dirk Gently tv series from 2012. So far I have not been impressed and partially agree that Douglas Adams would not be happy w/ this.

Anyone that doesn't think his books can work in film are stupid as the 2012 series was bloody brilliant :D

reply

I read the book years ago so I don't really remember any of it. But this series has the FEEL of Douglas Adams, and I LOVE it!
