What has this got to do with the book? Douglas Adams must be spinning
... in his grave. This is absolute crap! WTF?!

shareHe would be spinning for joy. He would have loved it.
shareshowrunner max landis said in interview you can't directly adapt Adams, you have to make something with the same or similar structure and similar story in his style and hope it works.
Those seven years of MacGyver finally payed off
I'm actually really glad that someone making something like this actually figured this out. Every time they've tried to stick too closely to the source material they've managed to muck it all up in an amazingly awful way.
shareThe tone feels like Adams to me... sorry it doesn't work for you - I loved the pilot... hoping ep 2 is as good.
shareSame here. I just watched the pilot on Netflix. I did not know about that Adam's novel (my bad). But during the whole episode I was like "I know that from somewhere...". First I thought I was comparing it to Doctor Who, but it was actually "The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy"'s style.
I bought the season on Amazon with the assumption it would be somewhat as good as the last Dirk Gently tv series from 2012. So far I have not been impressed and partially agree that Douglas Adams would not be happy w/ this.
Anyone that doesn't think his books can work in film are stupid as the 2012 series was bloody brilliant :D
I read the book years ago so I don't really remember any of it. But this series has the FEEL of Douglas Adams, and I LOVE it!
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.
