It can't be the former because all the OG actors are returning to reprise their roles.
The only time a horror remake was originally going to have an actor from the original series return was when they planned to do a remake of Child's Play (way before the 2019 one) with Brad Dourif, back in 2008-2010, before Curse of Chucky was planned to continue to the series from 2013 onwards.
I think it being the latter is a safe guess.

shareI just hope it doesn't focus primarily on a bunch of dumb new Gen Z kids, only to show Prinze and Hewitt for 5 minutes and possibly kill their characters. The two new Scream movies were wack, so I hope this doesn't follow the trend that The Farce Awakens started.
