Racism abounds

Stream of consciousness begins in 10...9...

Really, I'm not even surprised anymore. We have the traditional white power political male giving it to the Black concubine once again (scandal, thomas jefferson, the runner, etc.)

Yet, you won't see a Black man giving it to a white female unless it's the last episode (e.g. resurrection). And that was only a kiss. Or maybe he dies in the 1st episode (e.g. fear of the walking dead).

Of course, let's show the Black men in the worst of light. How about sitting on a toilet stinking up the place WHILE eating nuts.

And of course, let the American Justice System pardon a white supremacist who viciously attacks a Black man from behind; like a coward.

Oh, this is just episode one. Buh bye! F U Amazon, lord of the corporate rings wannabe. Is there anything your filthy tentacles aren't in? Oh, you own IMDB too? Jeez...

Oh I know. Here comes the responses --- "Make your own show. It's only a show and/or movie".

Yet, every Spike Lee board from his bio to his films are filled with attack messages calling him racist. I guess that's called white (power) privilege.

First of all, you're in no position to tell me what to do. And, obviously, your reading comprehension is extremely low. Why would I watch Scandal, the modern Thomas Jefferson rapist story? GFY

reply

All true, they call each other *beep* while drinking high priced brandy but the jew calling the black guy a *beep* gets everyone riled up. Because the jew killed jeasuse. Now in their defense some white wants to pay me $1500 for an hour, I will take it.. They can also call me anything they like, I will even call them daddy or mommey..

But you are missing some fantastic acting by the *beep* Overall, they were better than the whites. The Asian was just so so.. Putting the jew in his place was just daddy err dandy.. But the only people getting the crap beat out of them and whipped where whites... So even white supremacist have something to complain about.. The cops also can join in.. I think there is something offensive to the vast majority of the population.

Dude, I think the Mayor (great actor too - remember Bubbles from the wire?) in this is one of the best characters in this series. Of course there are racist issues (and anti semitism as well) but I think they are handled well. Keep in mind this is really just a psychological thriller.

It really gets sickening hearing all this racist boogeyman crap all the time especially when it is done with no intent at all like in a series like this.

He called you a little piece of chicken.

lol Well, you're right about pretty much everything.
I think the position of power shown for dark-complexioned Black females (as little, by type in comparison that it may be), might have upset a few reviewers, as well, since that's an actress demographic purposely suppressed by Hollywood.

I will say, though, that it is a pretty accurate portrayal of life, so if they were going for that, they succeeded. Especially when it comes to KD getting off for beating up the guy he did and the what the Mayor went through (honestly though, I dunno why the guy who called him the n-word would think calling someone a derogatory name was the equivalent to describing one's ancestor's actions).

And overall, they did an interesting job with their casting. To be honest, probably gave more in complete, well-rounded characters (especially when it comes to poc) than you'll ever get from bigger Hollywood productions, so I'll give it that. It was incredibly flawed but not a total waste if looked at from multiple perspectives.

If you kept watching you could have seen the wise old sage black woman helping out the troubled lost white woman!

Now I know how King Arthur felt when Lancelot caressed his wife's genitalia!

The answer is: shove your pc where the sun doesn't shine ;)
This is an excellent show.

only thing I agree with is the wise old helpfull black woman trope being old

All that I got from that post was that you missed a good show because YOU are a racist. The show actually dealt with the topic of racism and religion pretty well.

Your loss.

Excellent rebuttal and seconded! 
Nobody got out of that show without blemishes revealed.

Tessie was so much more than a high priced call girl, anyway. She didn't even have to put out half of the time and still walked away with $1,500 /each meeting AND a diamond ring on her finger. Her character was completely in control the entire time and she was already at a place where she did not need the money, with her real estate investments / ownership and what-not.

My favorite characters were KD, the mayor, and tessie. All 3 were solid characters and much better than the rest of the cast. Not really a fan of Ron Perlman.

Having said that, people just want to throw out the race card because they can and they won't get in trouble. Let's burn buildings and elderly homes because some criminal got killed attacking a cop. It's pathetic. people need to grow up and take responsibility for their actions or lack thereof.

Playing the race card at every opportunity is just as stupid as denying racism exists and innocent people do get killed for the color of their skin.

The world will be a better place if we all use more common sense and less judgment.

Of course people still get killed due to the color of their skin, I won't argue that. However, that's all around not just towards one group of people. The difference is that the media only focuses on one ethnicity when it comes to deaths. If the media took a step back and didn't provide a reliable outlet for the race card abusers then it would be less of an issue.

And with that statement, you're denying that racism exists.

Every crime story posted on the web by the news media that does not specifically name the criminal's race, the comment boards are overflowing with derogatory comments about blacks. They just assume that the crime in question had to have been committed by a black "thug".

If it then turns out that the criminal was white (and it is more often than not), those same people will flood the comment boards with derogatory comments that this white criminal must be a liberal.

It happens on a daily basis, almost like clock work. And it is sickening. Hate begets hate. Again, we need common sense and quit being so damn judgmental.

The "don't believe your lyin' eyes" mentality is what divides this country.

My statement did not deny racism exists and I'm not sure how you came to such a conclusion. To deny it happens to all rather than just blacks is absolutely absurd and is racism itself.

Why was there no media attention focused on the unarmed white guy in Colorado (I believe, been a while since I read it) that was gunned down by a black cop because he pulled his pants up? Oh wait, that's because the media was focused on the 6"+ 350 pound 18 year old that assaulted a store clerk, robbed him, and attacked a cop who gunned the "innocent" kid down. Give me a break with your ridiculous argument. The home alarm companies like ADT can't even have a black person or Hispanic person as the burgler attempting to break into a house because they're afraid they'll get sued.

It's absurd, and your first reply to my post gave me the impression you had the common sense that you ask others to have.

reply

You have no idea what racism means. I have not denied anyone economic or housing or basic human rights.

reply

You haven't? Neither have I.

I was denied government aid for college because they were giving it to people who would show up long enough to get their financial aid check before dropping all their classes. 5 people in one college course and all were black. I had a 4.0 but I couldn't get any assistance. I barely had enough money to pay for school while working 3 jobs, but tell me more about how I'm privileged and I've denied someone economic help.

On the flip side, my pysch class had about 10 idiot white baseball players with a full scholarship who thought it was an accomplish to score 17 out of 100 on a test. I actually heard one of them brag about it because his friend scored an 11.

Either way, the system is broken and people less deserving get financial assistance while the people who work support these losers who won't support themselves because the government gives them everything.
