How could any father who raised his child from birth tell his daughter "I cannot even look at you right now" after finding out that she is not from his seed? I believe no father could do that especially since the circumstances had nothing to do with her and who she is. It was the only setup for an ending that the author could come up with, I believe.
It is not unbelievable. Some people do have the ability to just disconnect from a situation or a person just like that. Specially after such a traumatic experience.
Well, bananas, until it actually happens to you, all you can ever do is to "think" about how you would react.
Whether you believe it to be an honest reaction to being betrayed by those whom you've loved and devoted your life to is pretty irrelevant, although I don't think it would be a typical reaction of an automaton/robot/computer or whatever you imagine the word humanoid to mean. An automaton is by their very nature NOT human, & therefore incapable of emotion (or indeed feelings) of any sort, be they rage, anger, humiliation or indeed even love. Automata are defined by logic, not emotion.
Humanity, by contrast is existentially emotional. Faced with an overwhelming sense of loss & betrayal, I find such reactions both believable & justifiable.
Look at the world around you. Muzzie kids strap on suicide vests and go & murder their fellow muzzies out of some misguided sense of moral outrage over any pretence of affront to a long-dead theocratic dictator. The USA now has more guns than people, that kill over 300 of them per week, because they're just so scared of the big, bad world. Our emotions drive us to unbelievable excesses of stupidity, much of which we come to regret.
I still cannot believe that you could have such a tenuous grasp of the english language too.
To reiterate: robots can't have feelings. Therefore a robot wouldn't reject a stranger's bvastard. A human would. Therefore a human would react in the exact opposite way you believe s/he should.
We're hardwired to care and nurture for our own offspring just as you state, and to reject a strange "alien" child, just as he did. Why can't you understand that the "daughter" isn't his. It's the old fellow's bvastard. Not only had he been cuckolded but also cuckooed all his life. Intentionally, on purpose. Lied to by the woman he loved, & who he thought loved him - only to find out she was a lying, deceitful, treacherous slapper.
She'd led him on for years, living a dreadful lie and proving that she had no love or trust for him at all. And you don't understand why he's pisssed? What planet are you on?
Oliver learned in one night that his wife cheated on him when he was at his lowest ebb, was in love with Henry and would have left Oliver if Henry didn't dismiss her after his Wife's death, he was basically second choice for her, happily had Oliver work under the same man for near on 20 years and oh yeah finds out his beloved daughter Hedvig isn't his child but Henry. Also she never told Hedvig who her real father was. I know Christian gets it in the neck for what he did but damn Charlotte is up there for sheer scumbag behavior. She might have ended up loving him again but still come on anyone says no man would react the way Oliver did are lying. One thing about the ending that pissed me off was him saying sorry to her.
Everything Oliver loved and believed in was a lie. He was angry and hurt, Charlotte and Oliver's dad should have sat Hedvig down and told her the truth and to leave him be for a while. The fact they let her go out there and meet up with Oliver at his lowest point was unfair on both Oliver and Hedvig.
I've seen many case of men disowning children they thought were there's on the spot. Not every man will step up and take care of another man's child. Fact's are facts.
Well honestly the ending was pretty unbelievable as well. If the girl gets what I assume was a long arm... Not sure I could tell whether it was a rifle or shotgun I expected it to be a shotgun that would have been used for duck hunting but the sound of it was more like a rifle than a shotgun... but none the less... 99% of the time someone tries to kill them self with a long arm they do so by propping it up in such a way that it is a head shot of some sort... Which is usually fatal... yet in the last scene her face is pretty much unscathed... Was she supposed to have managed to shoot herself in the gut? If so then she wouldn't be likely to die given she wasn't DOA by the time she made it to the hospital.... Sorry but the ending was contrived. You want to end it with her dying fine then have the balls to do it... but don't give this unfinished ending BS man up and make a decision as a director to either kill her off and make a down film or make it a hollywood happy ending... Not saying I prefer one over the other but ending the film with her in a hospital bed is a cop out.
I agree 100%. I just saw the movie and really enjoyed it, up until the very end where it left me hanging! You're right,
it is a cop out and it ruined the whole movie for me.
100% agree. That's not possible. It was a total nonsense and unreal. 99.9% people don't do that. 0.1% of parental psycho maybe, but he didn't look nor behave like that up to that point. Thus make no sense.
