Why this movie is getting hate.

Simply put, I feel as if a modern audience, like ourselves, that mindlessly digests stale Christmas cookies of film franchises like "Paranormal Activity", "Saw", and a plethora of crappy remakes like 2014's Poltergeist, cannot grasp the idea of a horror-comedy. I had a few buddies of mine go to see Krampus. They then came back, and complained that it was dumb that it tried to be funny. The classic lines that they used were 'it should've been more gory', 'why was it funny?' and 'horror films shouldn't be funny'.

I feel like most mainstream people don't get the blend of horror-comedy - they want cheap jump scares and James Wan's screechy violins (to be fair, I enjoyed The Conjuring and Insidious) to a practical, well-made horror comedy. Plus, most people have called the ending cheap and a cop-out, and they didn't even know that it actually ended differently; why don't they know? Because they left the theater early like jackasses.

Anyways, this movie will probably become a cult classic; I already have begun quoting around my friends and family, and it's message is timeless. I just hope it doesn't get too mixed an audience response because it's very rare a practical, funny movie like this will be made in a while. (Trick R Treat 2, where are you?)

It was neither good comedy or good horror.. the movie fell flat in every respect except for the practical effects which were great. The only reason i kept watching it....
Such a disappointment

And your friends are right with the lack of gore, it could have added allot more to the story... it was very limited by its PG rating

An adult comedy krampus film that was actually funny like the directors Trick R treat film would have been great.

Because it just wasnt that good ? Did you ever think about that lol, come be real it's miles inferior to gremlins and e like. the story was too ridiculous.

reply

And Gremlins wasn't? You're kidding yourself bucko.

reply

I love Gremlins, but the effects are really starting to show...

to me little rare monkey like animals secretly exisiting is a lot more believable than a supernatural hooved anti santa clause monster from another dimension freezing over a town with magical evil gingerbread men and toy monsters and then trapping their souls in a a snow globe with a grandma who only speak english when it suits her.. the film didnt work .

People went to see this expecting a two-dimensional horror flick
and were disappointed when it turned out to be a traditional Christmas morality tale (like A Christmas Carol) . The whiners that said it was boring and didn't have enough chainsaw gore completely missed the point.

A bunch of 80s and 90s films blended horror and comedy. These two genres go really well together.

I think people these days expect so much that they can't be satisfied or they are so narrow-minded that they can't get the concept of a movie being made that other people like more than they do. It happens with movies and TV shows.

To me, the movie had some flaws, wasn't as scary as I wanted it to be, but I enjoyed the performances and the premise enough to call it good. But this, like all movies, isn't made for everyone\ or for every mood.

The people who hate it are people who were raised by the internet and not by their parents. They download these movies then come on IMDB thinking they are some sort of "respectable" critic we should all listen to. There is no way that all of these "haters" are paying actual money to watch these movies.

Why this movie is getting hate?
Its not about the movie. Its about people obsessing to be smart and intellect.
Since they dont have the capability to create something, they have the need to bash any random movies or other form of art only to prove that they are smart and intellect.

I thought this film was a very enjoyable and effective blend of horror and humor. Moreover, it was refreshing to see a fright film of recent vintage that wasn't either a remake of a beloved genre classic or some mean-spirited piece of so-called "torture porn."

Hate is a strong word. Disliked is better. What was this movie PG-8? or whatever. The setting was good, the acting was fine, the costumes/cgi was good enough. It just leaned way too much on the comedy which made you wonder why they even bothered with the "horror". I've seen children cartoons more violent than this movie. It just felt like a joke but it wasn't funny. It tried very hard to be funny however. It made it all come off very cheap.

I personally would not have minded a much darker version with decapitations, mutilations and what not. It was my fault really because that's what I *expected*. You know there are movies that actually mix comedy and horror perfectly. This basically had no horror at all.

The movie to me was just boring nothing memorable happened. That's not saying the movie was bad, it was just meh. I really liked the costumes. Krampus himself was probably the most spoopy looking thing in the movie and carried it. The slow start and the weak, terrible ending really brought the movie down for me.

This movie would have been better off with only the comedy tag and not the "horror". I watched through the entire thing. At the one hour mark it kinda came to me that nothing would actually happen in this movie.
