Will the Kevin Smith and Tusk haters are going to go after his daughter?

Will the Kevin Smith and Tusk haters are going to go after his daughter?

I like Kevin Smith. I am not a huge fan, but I have seen all his films. I do see some serious hatred towards him by critics and by the internet.

My question is... will his daughter get some unfair criticism because of this film?

reply

Probably. I don't have an opinion on her acting abilities, as she wasn't in Tusk all that much, but since she's a co-lead in this, most of the attention will be directed at her and Lily-Rose. Most likely anybody who hates Kevin Smith will look for ANYTHING to hate, so I'm expecting to see some "SHE CAN'T ACT! SHE'S TALENTLESS!" posts.

reply

Probably. Nepotism tends to provoke negative reactions.

I woudn't call it nepotismin in this case. Smith likes to work with friends and family. That's the case since Clerks. Why would he change that approach to film making now?

And HQ Simth will get some hate, like the movie will, like everything gets hate by someone. At this point, who cares? It's the norm. It means nothing.

reply

The saddest part is that Michael Parks won't be part of the cast, but I liked Tusk so much that I have faith this one will also succeed.

reply

Just because Smith is consistent with nepotism doesn't mean it's not nepotism.

I don't care - nepotism is everywhere in every industry. I'd only mind if the daughter stinks at it, but I don't think I've seen her in anything.

If there's anything i learned from his podcasts... is that any time you do anything, at all, anywhere that is even remotely public, someone will take a giant *beep* on it for no reason. especially on the internet, (google 'the greater internet *beep* theory' for why the internet is so bad)

but if anyone knows how to deal with the down side of being a public figure, it is probably Jennifer Schwalbach and Kevin Smith (they are a team if you listen to Plus One, it's clear they figured out how to deal with the insanity of fame as a team).

i feel bad for HQ knowing the way people can be so mean. however. ..... she has a great support network of Smith's extended 'family' (if u listen to the podcasts u know what i mean) and a lot of loyal fans.

i liked her scenes in Tusk and KS knows how to make a movie, so he wouldnt have made it if it was completely unworkable for her to be in the role. so i think the core of the fans will support her.... and as KS has said, thats all you need... is a few thousand people who love what you do. if you work hard and please yourself and it will likely please them and you can build a career and be happy.

reply

Spot on. Criticism will come her way regardless of her performance. Kevin is a down to earth guy despite his success, I am sure he and Jen will have raised a strong, sensible girl who can take it in her stride.

reply

Yep she already is.
And what does this post title even mean? Lol it makes no sense when you read it.

reply

Thank you. I thought I was the only one.

reply

yeaaaah, because it is impossible to consider tusk, copout and the last jay and silent bob cartoon terrible and still like smithy, right? all "haters", right? can't be that kev did some pretty bad stuff and that people will skip yoga hosers altogether, right?

Everything Kevin Smith has done since Seth Rogen introduced him to pot has been terrible. As he puts it on his podcast, he wakes and bakes every morning including when he's writing and shooting films... Kevin Smith should write a film about 1994 Kevin Smith arriving from the past in a time machine and slapping the *beep* out of current day Kevin Smith then taking over whatever movie he might be directing at that time which is actually the movie your watching... Meta Smith.

I'm glad he's having so much fun making pretend with all his friends and living his dream... but for a guy who idolizes characters based around the theme of great potential and the responsibility to fulfill that potential, he's really allowing some of his best years to go by instead of making the films we all know he can make.

EDIT: Actually Red State was good... I shouldn't totally rule him out since Zack and Miri, but still... he's got to get sober.

reply

I think the problem is that Smith has quite simply shot his entire creative wad.
