Question for non-Christians who watched this movie

I see a lot of non-Christian/believers on here trashing this movie. My question is simple...if you are not a Christian, why did you bother watching this movie in the first place and then get on here and attack the Christian message/s it conveys? If you don't like seafood, don't eat at Red Lobster. If you don't like looking at naked women, don't go into a strip club. I am not a Muslim, so I would not watch a movie about Islam and Islamic beliefs and then get on a message board and attack Islam. You knew this was a Christian movie about Christian beliefs before you watched it, right? If you thought the acting in this movie was bad, fine....critique the acting. But do not attack it's Christian message. If you don't like them or believe in them, you should not have wasted 2 hours of your life watching this movie. Now I know that some will attack these statements with a lot of little sarcastic comments and jabs, but I would really like to hear from some of the more mature, serious crowd on this matter. If you're not a Christian, why bother?

I am actually an atheist, not a believer one bit but will happily watch this when I have time and like and these types of movies. I find them generally well done, touching, inspirational, showing family values and struggles; and even as an atheist, I can appreciate and respect the belief in God by others as generally a good think in the world, not always however, but that is another topic for another time. I celebrate Christmas like anyone else with all that goes with it, I just don't believe in the God part, but have been known to say a prayer before. I even like the Bible, I just change the word God for Good and it makes more sense to my analytical scientific oriented mind. So please excuse the others and forgive, as I am sure your God would want you to do, and also know there are many like me out there that are good with religion, just not for us. Also, some that are not religious might get afraid to watch it, afraid they might start to believe, so it is easier to just stay away and not watch, sort of like people that are afraid to go into a Church for what might happen. I go to Churches on occasion and generally enjoy the people, the beauty of the building, the song and the love that is surrounding it all, I just can't get beyond the God part and never could, but it certainly doesn't scare me and I am open to being proved wrong some day, you never know and I always say never say never. After I watch it, it will be a good review if the acting, storyline, message and characters were good, that is how I will rate it fairly and with no religious bigotry. The trailer actually looked interesting so far.

Same here. I went to church as a child, but never hated it like some other people I know. I actually liked going and enjoyed the rituals, but I have no belief in God. I am secure in my beliefs and I'm not going to get talked into anything. My kids have had rare occasions to attend church and I'll gladly go with them. I love old-fashioned hymns and enjoy the reverence, but that's about it. Maybe one day it will strike me, but I'm currently content with the way things are.

I call myself agnostic, because I really and truly don't know if God exists. And I'm fine with that.

Well, that's exactly the problem. Some people who criticize this movie are Christians, and are still disappointed by it. Why? Because the main character was a lazy pushover who relied too much on praying to magically fix all her problems for her, instead of acting on her own and simply go to a marriage counselor like she should've done in the first place. And I'm sorry, but the scene where Miss Clara shouts to The Lord in front of the mugger with the knife was very cringeworthy and unrealistic. If I were ever in that situation, I'd run in the other direction, take out my cellphone, and call the police (they were in an open parking lot, so it's not like they were trapped in a closed alleyway).

Everything about this movie is extremely unrealistic. You can't always rely on praying to fix all of your problems. I know that praying can be a good source of comfort in harsh situations, but as I said before, it doesn't automatically make your problems go away (and I'm saying this as a fellow Christian)!

I know that Cinderella lived with an abusive step family, and eventually had to rely on a fairy godmother to get her to the Prince's ball, but at least Cinderella had an excuse for put up with all her step family's bullsh!t. She was a poor severant girl who had all of her money squandered, so she had no other place to live or work. Plus, that story took place way before phones existed, so calling a child abuse hotline was out of the question. This movie takes place in modern times, so it doesn't even make sense for Danielle to have to continue living with that abusive husband of hers.

Besides, there are plenty of better Christain movies out there, War Room just isn't one of them.

Because Christianity infuriates me; confuses me; exasperates me. (come to think of it ALL religions do too, but none so much as the sanctimonious and pious Christians)

So-I watch and read and hope, that some show signs of returning to the 'logical side.

reply

'sanctimonious and pious...' Ok, so then tell me why you don't like the REAL Christians?

reply

And who might they be? Are you saying that 'real' Christians are not like this?
I see them frightening children in shopping malls. Horrible creatures.

reply

Just because someone calls themselves Christians doesn't me they are true Christians. I've never frightened children in a shopping mall. I strive to have a heart like Christ....loving, compassionate, merciful, kind, meek and humble. It sounds like you've had some bad experiences with some SO-CALLED Christians? But maybe you've never met a real one.....

reply

So, when a christian does something outrages he or she automatically turns into an 'untrue' christian? Sounds logical......

Amen!

I don't want to say it's a bad movie, but it's bad. It's poorly written. Take the lead, for instance. We're supposed to root for her because, I guess, she is married to an *beep* But she's not a very likable character. This is my opinion, though. and not at all the main problem with this movie.

It has a message, which it shoves down your throat repeatedly. I guess it's a great message for christians, in that regard that it showcase that you need to put yourself, your faith and everything you are in Gods hands, and he comes trough. The only problem with this is that it's only one half of the story.

The bible clearly teaches you that, but it also tells you life isn't easy always. There will be tough times, and you should even cherish those times as they will give you an opportunity to strengthen your faith. It also tells you to strive at doing your best and leading your life like God wants, which includes working for your marriage. Which this movie undermines big time.

As several has mentioned before, this marriage is pretty broken. Sometimes it's not even possible to save, which the bible itself states. But because this is a christian movie, divorce is out of the question. The problem though, is that she never once does anything herself to save it, she literally sits in a closet, crying to God to fix it. I heard a saying that went something like this: If you want something, work like you're not praying and pray like you're doing nothing. Which is a great way to look at it and is even supported by the bible.

Also something that hurts most christian movies.

Christians are portrayed as better than everyone else. Everybody who's not christians are portrayed like bad people. Tony is a prime example of this. He's clearly not christian, even though he attends church. He's acting like a real douche bag, until he is converted and suddenly he is the nicest guy on the block.
The only character arc these types of movies has, are people becoming christians. Either they have struggled with their faith and are reborn, or they never were believers in the first place. Never does this movies deal with the other way.

Life is to short to remove USB safely.

No. I mistakenly thought it was a film about war. The title...go figure.

reply

I am not a Christian, I'm a Muslim. I am critique of Islam. Despite this, I loved this movie - "War Room" just about took my breath away!
This movie is about the power of prayer in every aspect of our lives, particularly those areas of our lives which need help the most.

Of course non-christians are going to watch it! If you just talk to people with the same mindset as you, you'll get bored. There isn't anything to talk about. Lots of diversified people from different religions watched Bill Maher's "Religulous" and all had different opinions. I watched this movie and, thought it had a lot of dumb ideas. Unfortunately, there are a lot of annoying atheists who shout at people with religious beliefs without talking to them first and that's what we are seeing quite a bit of on this message board. They make the rest of us look bad! I hope they haven't given you a bad view of atheists.
