I recorded it on my dvr to watch later, and so far, in trying to watch it 3 times now, I've only gotten as far as Deputy Winston showing up (actually only made it that far one time).

OMG, the "actors" in this reshot movie (I refuse to call it a remake when it's around 95% shot-by-shot, word-for-word) desperately need acting lessons.
They hardly show any emotion, neither in their actions nor on their speech.

The laughs in this horror comedy is what really made the original so great, at least for me.
However, you didn't miss that by skipping this movie.
Most of the jokes, so far as I got, anyway, are completely ruined not only because the actor didn't deliver in the way they needed to make it funny (time wise, the way they acted and the non-emotion in their speech), but the other actors in their non-reactions to the comedy.
Big miss in this one at the beginning was the elimination of the Southern Country Bumpkin racist (not really) with "the gun is for the N****rs". I loved it at the end of the original when he grabs the gun before the black guys come strolling in, then starts talking to them like best friends, using the group's lingo, and returns their gun they had special ordered. Best laugh in the bunch of winners throughout the whole thing.

I can't believe Eli Roth had anything to do with this piece of
@#$& movie.
How he even gave permission to do it is beyond me.
It's not like it was so old it needed to be redone for a new generation, or even to modernize it.
IDK, maybe he thought it would help his or the movie's reputation to get a "remake" done of one of his movies like Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, or the Texas Chainsaw movies. If that was the thinking, it certainly failed to impress.

I'm being extremely clever...no1 around looking impressed! What's the point in having you all? DrWho

Well said! Great analysis. I agree completely. The original was clever, funny and horrifying! I just don't get the point of this one. There was absolutely no need to remake the movie and in such a horrible way. The only thing I can figure is that they were trying to make a serious horror movie. Epic fail on that account. There was not one redeeming quality in this film.

Thanks.
I go into a little more depth of my analysis, especially re the characters, if you check out the thread titled something like "this movie is better than the previous 3"
Not sure what that OP was watching, but it surely wasn't the same one I started watching.

I haven't rated many movies 3/10 or under, but this one got 3/10. I've probably seen about 1k movies, maybe 10-20 of them I rate 3 or lower. It's definitely one of the worst I've seen, especially for that kind of budget. It's not like they had no money work with.
