Seriously? 10 year olds?

It seems kinda odd for this film is about ten year olds stealing a cop car. I think it would be more realistic if these kids were teenagers. It's gonna be dark watching Kevin Bacon threaten little kids with a gun.

reply

Not as dark as his character raping kids in sleepers.

Not as dark as his character raping kids in The Woodsman.

reply

Yeah. Kevin Bacon raped a lot of kids... in movies.

So, I guess you've played that popular trivia game, 'SIX INCHES OF KEVIN'S BACON'?

He's a Cancer, the sign associated with kids....

Oh what a day. What a lovely day!

reply

Not as dark as Bacon raping those teenagers in "Foot Loose."

reply

10 does seem too young. They just don't have they coordination to drive a big car.

reply

You are saying they do not have the "coordination"???? You are aware that kids that young play VIDEO GAMES all the time some of them even driving related like Grand Theft Auto right? And the awkwardness of being so young in such a situation is part of the story.

reply

'You are aware that kids that young play VIDEO GAMES all the time some of them even driving related like Grand Theft Auto right?'

That doesn't mean they can drive an ACTUAL car properly. Comparing game physics to real life smh. I play Call Of Duty that doesn't mean i can join the commandos in the army.

reply

No but it means they know the name of the gun and can operate it. Just because you don't own a dog does not mean you can't feed it.

reply

Feeding a dog and driving a two ton vehicle at 10-years old is vastly different. Poor choice of metaphor.

reply

I don't get why it is so unbelievable, the mechanics of driving a car especially one with automatic shift is easy enough, the hard part is following all the traffic rules. If it was a manual shift i'd imagine the movie would have been a lot shorter, as it does take some learning.

reply

I drove my dad's 1947 Dodge pickup when I was ten.

reply

sure you did rambo

reply

I sure did. On private property, not public highways. Nothing strange about it at all. It would be strange and dangerous if I was doing it in a city though.

Actually there is nothing strange about 10yo-s managing to drive cars. I presume it is not as common in urban areas. But I crew up in country side and most of my friends sometimes drove their parents' cars or tractors when they were 10. Not me because my elders were tight-asses who were afraid that if they teach me to drive so early I would some day steal their pecious vehicle and crash it (not entirely baseless fear though :P). But many of my friend learned to drive at very young ages. At six they were sitting on their fathers laps turning the wheel while father changed gears and pushed pedals but at nine already on themselves. In this movie the conditions were also on boys side: the police car as probably most cars in US had automatic gearbox, the terrain was quite flat and roads long and straight. So it was quite easy for them to get a grip of it.
The car jump was an overkill + superfake looking :P

reply

in my neighborhood( a bit redneck admittedly), 10-12 year old are flying around all day on 4-wheelers... and they're harder to drive than an automatic car.

reply

I recall a news item I heard on the radio about a dozen years ago. A small-town police officer was patrolling in his cruiser through the deserted streets at about 3 AM one morning when he saw a car proceeding very slowly along the main street. He pulled alongside and was startled to see no one at the wheel. He maneuvered in front of the car and brought it to a halt by halting his cruiser. He got out, opened the door of the other car and found that there was indeed someone at the wheel: a four-year-old boy. The boy said he had awakened with a strong craving for candy. He knew there was no candy left in the house so he went into his parents' bedroom and took the car keys from their place on the bedside table. Then he went out to the car, started it and drove slowly and carefully to the candy store. Finding it unexpectedly closed at 3 AM he reluctantly returned to the car and was driving back home when he was stopped by the patrolman. (I didn't hear the aftermath so I'm not sure how his parents reacted or even whether he realized how unusual his solo shopping trip was but I'm pretty sure he learned to drive by watching his parents, not by playing video games.)

reply

Who would you root for if they were even 5 years older?

reply

I was rooting for Bacon anyways, so it wouldn't change anything if the kids were older.

reply

I am guessing none of you live in the country where that's what you do. You drive Dad's old clunker around. So it is totally feasible.

reply

no it's not....especially inbred hillbillies

reply

Adults die in car accidents. Ten year olds without a driver's license and driving in the dark, don't.

Totally believable.

reply

perhaps KB visited Manchester, England, whilst he was filming those uk mobile phone adverts - and got the idea, but decided to make the kids a bit older to make it more credible for moviegoers
