New Title!! Poor Ron Howard...

So, guess they just went with the generic "we'll copy the format from the past spinoff" option. Ron Howard has to be s****** his pants right about now. Wasn't exactly coming off a recent run of success when the producers hired him to fill in. Now he probably realizes that he was left with a bag of dog **** from the prior directors, had an overweight and miscast star, had to use a lot of what was already done due to time constraints, and now will have his name on the one Star Wars movie from the new batch that is deemed a failure. This is the type of thing that puts a nail in the coffin of a struggling director.

That depends what you consider a failure. If it makes a ton of money (and it will), but less than all the others (and it probably will), is that a failure? I wouldn't say so it unless it's also poorly regarded by fans and critics.

But I share your skepticism. This crazy business of routinely canning directors and writers midstream is eventually going to catch up to Lucasfilm. This may be the one.

I'm just feel badly for Ron Howard. I think he's a talented director, so I hope that any "failure to meet expectations" is not pinned on him.

No, it doenst mae a ton of money. It is the Star Wars movie which lost lead at the box office after only 17 days withut any blockbuster competition at all in the cinemas (no Star Wars movie ever before did that). Its the Star Wars movie which lost 44% earning at the second week and is right now at the third week domestic at appr. 80 million dollar (and that wasnt even nearly reached at any Star Wars movie before!). At China the estimates from Disney were 120 millions. Now they are at 50 millions!

This movie lived only from the huge amount of presold tickets. As soons as it was viral that this was the worst sh*tfest ever done with the Star Wars label on it the movie became toxic at the ticket sales. It will most likely reach 1 billion (it hasnt yet, cause they still calculate the projections for worldwide tickets instead of the horrible real sales figures). And it will most likely bring some profit. But way, way less then any investor ever thought. Johnson is now dead at Hollywood. No investor will hand him his hundreds of millions of dollars over anymore.

Paul Bettany recently commented on the young Han Solo movie, “It’s Han Solo's story, and of course his story would be a caper. On one level it’s a gangster movie. That’s really interesting, because it’s within the canon but really different. It’s f–king Han Solo!”

Bettany said about Ron Howard's reshooting scenes filmed by fired directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, "He reshot a lot more than was originally intended.”
