Throwing some love Robson Green's way

I've been a fan since watching "Touching Evil". I really like his work. Living in the states, I haven't seen much of his TV work, looks like he has another gig on a show in the U.K.
I wouldn't mind more scenes or expanding his role in Grantchester.

reply

I like him too! He sort of reminds me of Scott Bakula... something about his forehead and eyes. James Norton would likely outshine most any second banana.

reply

you're right - he is a shorter Brittish version of Bakula

reply

I'm a big fan of Green too, he's mostly outstanding in everything he does. I wouldn't mind more scenes either in Grantchester. It's a great series, the hallmark of British productions.

You should check out "Wire in the Blood", a crime/drama series. He's amazing in the role as Dr. Tony Hill, a clinical psychologist who are helping the police to solve different crime cases in a very special way. All seasons of the series have been released on DVD, in both region 1 and region 2.

And if you're up for love, there's the series "Reckless" from -97, with a young Green. Also starring Michael Kitchen who's brilliant, as well as Francesca Annis. It may at first feel slightly outdated, but grows on you for each episode. It's an amazing ensemble, and especially good dialogues. I think it's very worth seeing.

reply

Thanks.
I know "Wire in the Bllod" is on Netflix, I'll check for the other (who isn't up for love? Ha)

reply

You're most welcome. From what can see, "Reckless" is on Netflix too. Amazon has it, but for $199.99, which is just crazy. I bought the mini series at moviemail.com in the UK for £17 last fall, but they don't seem have it anymore. Yes, everyone needs a little love, ha. Good luck!

reply

I totally agree!! Robson Green is the reason I was looking forward to this series. Like others on this thread, I have loved him in "Wire in the Blood" and "Touching Evil". Will now check out "Reckless", thanks!

reply

You're welcome. This is what I like about IMDb, maybe we'll make a couple of threads on the "Reckless" board, haha. I hope you'll enjoy it!

reply

beja-4, thanks for posting your thoughts on other Robson Green series. I too really enjoyed his portrayal of Geordie. I have not seen any of his other series (horrors!). So, for Robson-neophytes, would you rec. starting with Touching Evil or Wire in the Blood? And agree that recommendations on past work of actors in quality series like Granchester, such as yours, that one finds on Imdb boards is just wonderful. Keeps me in viewing heaven (or in perennial procrastination mode, depending on how you look at it).

reply

Thank you, you're welcome. Well, I'm not sure really, it's been awhile since I saw Touching Evil. It's like choosing between dark chocolate... and dark chocolate, haha. The productions differs, Wire in the Blood having a bigger budget. But both series have the same kind of feeling, the same kind of mood.

The characters Green plays in Wire In the Blood and Touching Evil are very different in many ways, yet have characteristics in common. Dave Creegan in Touching Evil is the burned out police, but also injured during duty. Which caused him to develop special qualities when he solves the various criminal cases. He's a sharp, rather cocky cop, but with a dark past and more introverted.

While Tony Hill in Wire in the Blood is the psychologist who's equally sharp but more open-hearted, and socially a bit awkward. More vulnerable than Creegan, more extrovert. Even he has been gifted with special qualities when he helps police solve the various criminal cases.

Both characters are excellent played by Green, I just love him. I think I'd go for Touching Evil first. That would keep you in viewing heaven, ha.

As a side note; check out Paul Abbott, he's the writer of both Touching Evil and Reckless and has many great series on his CV.

reply

I was going to mention "Reckless," too. Robson Green and Francesca Annis were one hot duo.

reply

Ha, yes they were, had a HUGE crush on Green when it first aired back in -97. So I bought the DVD last autumn and watched it, and now I'm on my second viewing, phew.

But I think all three leads are absolutely brilliant; Green, Annis and especially Kitchen. I think the whole ensemle is fantastic; Rhind-Tutt, Mullen and Nardini. It's a well-wrtten series, and very British.

reply

Take a look at a series called GRAFTERS. RG does a comic role as a slightly shifty Builder. He also wears shorts and goes shirtless at least once. That's fine.

reply

That's so odd though, because when I checked Grafters I actually recognise the series and I think I've seen it, at least the first season, as it was aired here after the quite big success with Reckless.

And I've always have had this in the back of my head, that he had been in a series as a Builder, but couldn't place which series it was. But it sort of comes back to me, fancy house... something. But I think I was a bit disappointed as it wasn't as good as Reckless, but charming. But I will definitely have another look, thanks for the tip! :)

The first time I saw Robson was in "Reckless" (1997) with Francesca Annis and Michael Kitchen. A fun series. He's a strong actor, glad he's in Grantchester.

reply

Oh, yes:-) I remember that series. My mum had a major crush on him then:-)

reply

Robson Green is one of my favorite actors. I try to see everything he does. When he was young, he reminded me of Ingo Rademacher from the soap General Hospital, especially around the eyes. Now he reminds me of Scott Bakula, as someone mentioned.

I just love his role in this, too. He's wonderful in anything he does.

reply

Yeah, we're loving Norton a lot but Robson Green should get his due. Really beautiful eyes.

reply

Gorgeous eyes...beautiful jewels. Excellent actor, too. Robson and Norton complement each other perfectly. Grantchester is a pleasure to watch.

reply

Yeah, I think they both make a perfect crime-solving pair on the show, which is also what makes it worth watching.

reply

Grafters was the first show in which I saw him. Loved it. Then Wire in the Blood.

reply

He was also fabulous as McNair the werewolf in the BBC's Being Human.

I'm the clever one; you're the potato one.

I'm a huge fan of Robson Green--loved him in "Touching Evil" and "Wire in the Blood"...that's why I bought this DVD...had no clue what it was about, but when I saw Robson Green was in it, I had to buy it.

I really hope there is a season 2!

reply

He's great in Grantchester. Such a wonderful moment when he and Sidney walk into the baby's room and the crib was empty- the look on his face and the tears in his eyes- well, he just made me burst into tears as well. Not a snazzy role but he does very well with it.

reply

I'm a big fan of Robson too. Love him in Wire in the Blood and Touching Evil. He is very good in Grantchester and he and James work really well together. Loving watching their friendship grow as the series goes on.

If you want to see more of Robson's work check him out in a drama called The Gambling Man. You have to see Soldier Soldier too.

Go to bed Frank or this is going to get ugly .

reply

Yes, big fan every since his early days in "Reckless" with Annis.

And in a news story that's too bizarre to be believed...

....Robson hit the tabloids a week ago in a story that says he ran away with the married wife of....wait for it....

....A VICAR.

(I'm not making it up.)

Sadly, the vicar appears to have said he's now questioning his faith after this loss of the missus to Robbie.

He stole the vicar's wife. Really!

The subject line of this thread becomes rather ironic, no?

That vicar's wife did indeed throw some love Robson Green's way. Yowza.

reply

The whole story is almost too perfect, isn't it, like a headline from the old style News of the World, or a 1950s novel.

Apparently they met at the local Gym...

What the dickens, Robson, what the dickens!

reply

I've just been reading the comments here and surprised nobody has mentioned Soldier, Soldier which was huge here in the UK, it made him a big star. Together with his co-star, Jerome Flynn (Game Of Thrones & Ripper Street) they even topped the music charts with their version of Unchained Melody. It ran from 1991 to 1997 but Green and Flynn left in 1995.

Personally, my favourite of his roles is McNair the werewolf in Being Human.
