Much Better
The first season was pretty shit. But season 2 really made huge improvements & the new series so far is much better than most of the original walking dead series.
Good stuff.

One smart thing they've done is to keep the walkers menacing, and a real threat. In the original show there have been too many scenes where people were trapped in the middle of a thousand walkers and still got out without a single bite. Zombie guts camouflage doesn't count. If they can see you, there's a big group of them and only a few of you, time to run! I'm going to miss Travis but the sense that anyone can die at any moment is important to the show. Scenes where they're out at night, or scouting a building, should be nerve wracking because even a main character could have their throat ripped out without any warning.
It looks like next week we may have a walking Daniel episode that ends the same place this episode ended, with him giving water to Strand (who you know he never liked). But they've avoided so far the trap of the original show this past season, too many digressions that took too long and had too little story. Daniel's journey should be more than interesting enough to fill an hour. Some of last season's episodes dragged a bit. And to be honest, I wish we'd seen more of the initial outbreak including TV news coverage of what was happening around the country. But overall this show has been improving with time. I really like the setup for Season 3, the ranch is an intriguing location with fascinating characters and a lot of potential.
so far so good. i'm hopeful.
shareYeah.. it's still kinda tough to root for characters that were so careless and just plain despicable/evil in the first season.
- Didn't in any way attempt to help their neighbor under attack by a walker.
- Madison left hole in the fence open and didn't bother tying it back up again.
- Left security gate open to their neighborhood when they left...
- Unleashed 2000 walkers into the streets of LA.
- Lead the 2000 walkers to a Hospital under military protection which resulted in hundreds of innocent deaths.
Oh well, maybe writers are setting up these people to become Governors one day, and in that event it makes sense.
Not only did they lead 2000 walkers to a Hospital under military protection, their actions caused the death of Lisa, and nearly got Strand and Nick killed. Strand and Nick were going to escape from the compound until they came along with the zombies, and got them trapped and nearly killed. Also, their actions led Dr. Exner to kill all the patients before turning on herself.
shareEveryone working at that hospital was in on the plan to terminate all civilians (including ones like Nick and Strand who were in no danger of dying). At least a few of them must've gotten away after Madison and Travis let them out, which is more than would have survived otherwise. They made a decision to sacrifice the lives of many guilty people to rescue their families. Does that make them evil? Guess that depends on your perspective.
Earlier at the house, Madison was only trying to protect her daughter. Her two previous encounters with walkers had shown her how tough they are to take down. Everyone has accessorized themselves with weapons at this point in the show, but back then she would've had to go rummaging through her garage for a baseball bat or something, and it would've been over by then. They didn't even have a gun until they broke in next door and stole one.
I think their failure to close the gate on the way out was basically the camera crew just not thinking about it when they filmed the driving away scene. But a few walkers finding their way in would've woken the residents up to the new situation. They're on their own. No more food or fuel being delivered; if they wanted to survive, they needed to forage for themselves and reinforce the fencing to make a wall. Who knows? Maybe they went on to become LA's version of Alexandria. Assuming they were far enough out not to die in the fires. Probably not, but we don't really know what became of them.
