Bombed. This is why you don't hire Z listers

You're actually meant to hire a real star to bring in the crowds.

This lost money, even pandering to the chinese market with asian actors.

reply

I actually think the human cast did a pretty good job.

reply

Nope if the objective of a studio picture is to make money, then they failed.

reply

Just my opinion. Not a judgment of box office.

reply

I think it grossed around $400,000,000 so not too shabby.

reply

That's not a bomb at all then.

reply

It’s below their break even.

reply

It lost money, but the biggest complaint is the narrative rather than the cast.

reply

oh

reply

No, doesn't sound like it.

reply

It was more the story than the actors. The entire movie was dark to make the cgimless noticable. Action never let up. Godzilla movies are inherently bad. So this is no surprise.

"Pandering to the Chinese market with Asian actors"

You have got to be kidding. Godzilla originated in the Asian movie market in the first place. And these new movies are just acknowledging those roots. If anything, there should be a lot *more* Asians instead of having the setting moved to the US with so many American characters.

reply

Cast matters not. All that makes a kaiju movie any good is the giant monster fights. And they botched those big time. Part of what botched it was the way it valued its actors over the action.

reply

Action sequences are expensive, easier to pad with dialogue.

reply

Back in 1954, when Akira Takarada made a big deal out of being the star of GOJIRA, he was told "You idiot! The monster's the star!". The same logic applies here.
