Oliver Twist with Loads of Drugs
Star as Oliver, Jake as Dodger, Krystal as Fagin.
After seeing Wasp, Red Road, and Fish Tank, I'll watch anything by Andrea Arnold. This wasn't strong as those earlier films, but it's still an interesting journey that shares themes with The Florida Project. Krystal's Mag Crew is made up of young people on the fringe--the kind of people targeted by cults, which is basically what the mag crew is.
Reminded me of certain 70s films where you watch more for the characters than the plot. LaBeouf perfectly embodied Jake's hustler mindset, Sasha Lane gave Star a sphinx-like quality, and Riley Keough channeled her grandfather's Tupelo roots as Krystal. Strong performances all around.
Food in Films: RIP uncooked chicken. Nathan stabbed you up pretty bad. I was terrified Star was going to try to cook it. SALMONELLA ALERT!
