Box-office comparison with "Bohemian Rhapsody". Its bad

Elvis made 140 millions so far at USA box-office. And wiki says its budget was only 85 millions. Which is hard to believe since movie looked expensive and they had many sets with recreations of his performances. Budget has to bee bigger. Like 150 at least. Hollywood is not capable to make cheap movies anymore. They always over budget it. I simply dont believe it cost 85 millions.

Not only Bohemian Rhapsody made 75 millions more at the domestic box-office. But 670 millions overseas. While Elvis made only 120 millions. It flopped so hard outside of USA. I actually wonder why. Elvis is well known all over the world.

But people went to see Freddie Mercury biopic like crazy and ignored Elvis.

No musician biopic has ever done as well as BR.

Compare Elvis to Rocketman.

Much better comparison, Bohemian was an incredible movie. Elvis is worse than Rocketman.

But it didn't do worse at the box office, despite Elton John being alive, active, and successful decades after Elvis left the building. That was my point. BR is a unicorn when it comes to musician biopic box office tally. Having that expectation for Elvis, in 2022, is silly -- but it still made more than the rest.

I'm not sure why you would say this. There weren't any elaborate settings or fictional worlds to build. There were a few stages, Beale street, a limited carnival fairground and a house. Not that complicated.

Sure the Covid delay could account for some additional cost, but $65 Million costly?

And the OP didn't cite those delays, just "many sets with recreations of his performances" So, stages. That's the big expense that the OP can't believe could be made with $85 Million. Stages.

Again, there's no doubt those costs add up. That's not the OP contention. The OP can't believe this was made on an $85 Million budget. The OP believes that it has to be more like $150 Million. The OP believes this is because of the recreations of his performances. None of that makes any sense.

The delays certainly added cost. I'm not arguing with you there.

That was the only new thing I found out from movie. That Elvis never toured outside of USA. I never thought of it and payed attention. So stupid of him. Maybe that why movie flopped outside of USA. Because there isnt that many 65 years old people i Europe or Latin America who remember that Elvis fever and went to theaters to see movie about their teenager idol. Like it was with Freddie Mercury.

Still - many young people know about Elvis. But no one cares to see it. It flopped horrendously. 120 millions worldwide is nothing comparing to other movies grosses. Bohemian Rhapsody just killed it with 670 millions. And that movie was bad and boring also.
