Unfair to give negative reviews if you haven't read the book.

It makes no sense to judge the movie or its director by the plot since the movie was a book first. I think it was pretty true to the original story, and that's all you can really ask for with a remake like this.

Isn't that basically saying that only people who've read the book should watch the movie? I'd actually say that those who haven't read the book offer the most unbiased opinion.

That aside, there's a reason people say "adapted for TV". Book was fantastic, doesn't mean a movie would be just as good.

Every 7 seconds ......

What a stupid view.
Books != movies. they are their own unique media. Don't confuse the two, stop being sucha scrub.

There's a difference between judging the film and judging the plot. People are giving this movie low ratings based on the story, which is ridiculous. I have yet to read one negative review that discusses specific elements of the filmmaking, rather than just bashing the story itself.

:sigh: once again, I have to explain what I mean. What my post was saying was reviewing the film based on its PLOT makes no sense since many of the complaints are based on scenes that were already in the book. A film, in my opinion, should be as close as possible to the book. The negative reviews I read seemed to be critiquing plot points, not film or cinematography aspects. But it's really sad that I can't express my opinion without you resorting to name-calling. Referring to me as an "idiot" is more indicative of your character than mine.
Are you saying that I can't rate the movie because I haven't read the book? I wasn't even aware of the book before reading this thread, and frankly, I do not care about the book. Do I really need to investigate every movie I watch to see if it is based on a book before rating it?

I thought the movie was pretty dull in general and I was bored throughout the entire movie. I gave my rating based on my own enjoyment, a bit below average movie, I gave it a 4/10.

If an adaptation is true to the book and the viewer still doesn't like it, it means that they wouldn't like the book even if they had read it. You say that you feel this adaptation was faithful enough, so it doesn't matter if the viewer hasn't read the book, right?

I've read the book and watched the animated movie, they are undoubtedly superior in every way, this film was an abomination not worthy of the name BFG.
