How did rylance win the Oscar?
He was pretty good but Oscar worthy? Sly should've got the award for a much more substantial performance

shareAre we really going back to this topic again? Please read some previous post. Thos top has been discussed here. He won so be it. Just leave the man alone. Ok?
shareStallone's performance wasn't actually that great. People are getting carried away because of nostalgia and sentimentality.
shareExactly. I think that people get really attached to the idea of Stallone winning regardless of whether or not the performance is actually deserving. This kind of thing seems to happen whenever a blockbuster film or big "movie star" is nominated.
shareYou both have made the correct call. Besides, Stallone had his time in the sun. Mark Rylance gave an understated yet affecting performance. I felt badly when Abel was shown into the back of the Soviet car. I figured, "That's probably the end of him". MR definetly deserved his Oscar.
shareYou must have misunderstood the signs Abel said to look for. If he'd been embraced, the Russians would have been putting on a show for the American's benefit. If he'd been shown to the back of the car, then everything was going to be business as usual. The message may have been a bit confused by showing Powers and his C/O embracing, but I attributed that to cultural differences. Remember, Powers' C/O personally knew and identified him. Abel had no such person.
sharehe gave an extremely good performance. donovan's son, who met rudolf abel on several occasions, said that he had 'nailed' the character.
shareRylance deserved that.
shareI said once I felt both actors gave an incredible performance. In order to make sure my nostalgia wasn't talking I showed creed to a friend who never had seen the Rocky films. He was absolutely blown away by Stallone. The next day we watched Bridge of spies and told me at the end he couldn't decide between Stallone and Rylance because both were wonderful. Keep in mind the first and last film he saw Stallone in was "Stop! Or my mom will shoot." Part of me wishes they had tied for best supporting actor.
"Feel free to criticize an actor, director, or writer however only criticize them if you know 100% you can do a far better job then them"
I actually think Stallone was better in "Rocky Balboa". I thought his performance in that film was more moving and memorable. Rylance was certainly good in this as well.
shareStallone was robbed for First Blood, Rocky Balboa, Rocky 1, and now creed too!!!
