and Hollywood's fat female phobia continues....

The Spanish guy was overweight, Jeff Daniels is old and not in the best shape, Chiwitel could stand to lose a few pounds (come on, let's do this by BMI: Let's say his BMI is 25.5. If a woman had that BMI, that would place her at a size 6-8 and she'd never get a role in most films.)

Damon had a good body but notice how they wouldn't make him lose weight for the role. Yeah... we're gonna have you play the role of some guy who gets stranded on mars with only potatoes to eat for 3 years but don't worry, you don't have to lose a pound, you're perfect as is..you're a man after all...

Meanwhile, all four women were emaciated. And TWO scenes (in a movie that took place 99% on a space ship,) featured women on tread mills sweating their faces off...you know...just in case you forgot a woman's duty, dear viewer. We really have to drive the point home.

Seriously, Hollywood, you have a severe psychological issue. Get help.

Wow, you seem bitter.

Astronauts need to be in good shape. And every extra kilo probably cost an extra half a million to send to Mars and take back. So there is that. Also, fatness is not something we should admire. It would be like saying... ohhh, another movie where a guy does not cut of his own arm just because he wants to.. that's a phobia towards bla, bla, bla.

Okay then why were three of the five women who were emaciated not astronauts?

Agreed. I'm not talking about fatness. I'm talking about a size 6 -8..severely underrepresented in the media. This size is like Tim the tool man Taylor's wife on Home Improvement in the 90's or Karen on Will and Grace. Those are really the only two size 8's I can remember in the media. Some newscasters as well. Otherwise women are either waiflike or gigantic, like Rebel Wilson, Oprah, Roseanne and Melissa McCarthy. Now those are fat women, and I agree it shouldn't be glamorized. However, there IS a gray area in reality. I realize Hollywood isn't reality, but not every man represented in Hollywood looks like Chris Hemsworth or Pierce Brosnan(unfortunately). A whole array of men are represented, character arcs as well as the gamut of physical diversity. However with women, it's very black and white: they're either a size 0-2 or a size 14++.

Stop it. Tyler Perry was one of the richest people in Hollywood for a few years.

I'm not saying it's right, but most people don't want to see overweight people in films. It only happens if it's part of the plot.

The plot of this particular film would not involve sending massively overweight people into space.

Tell that to Jack Black, Jonah Hill and Kevin James...

I didn't say massively overweight people should have been sent into space. But 3 of the 5 women who were so waiflike were not in space and one of the men in space was a little plump. So your synopsis is all sorts of wrong-o.

Why do I get the feeling you are an angry fat woman with not much going on in your life.

Probably because when you can't identify with someone's opinion you contort your mind to come up with all sorts of reasons that may invalidate their opinion because you can't accept that it exists? Just a guess, since you asked.

You have serious issues. Also Matt Damon swore he would never drop weight for a role after Courage Under Fire. I'm sure someone else mentioned that in one of their responses, but I'm not going to bother reading the rest of this thread considering how #@#$E$ stupid you are.

Oh that must be a nice luxury that he has as a man.

Do you know what you call an actress who swears she'd never drop weight for a role?
Unemployed.

reply

Wrong.

It costs thousands of dollars per pound to launch payloads into space.

Nobody would be allowed to fly on a Mars mission who was significantly overweight.

If Matt Damon packs 15 extrs pounds on his butt, that's 15 pounds of scientific gear they couldn't fly.

Oh. The pilot was fat. Just saying.

I'll play your whiny, bitter tune on the tiniest violin. Will that make you and all of the people like you shut up?

You are an idiot.
