COLD-BLOODED [SPOILERS]

When Idun murdered Phillip, I couldn't believe my eyes. The only reason he was even down there in the first place was because he and his wife decided to risk their lives by leaving the bus and staying to help Idun locate Sondre. Now, not only has he lost his wife because of her and her son, now he loses his life at her hands? And it was a big room, Idun and Sondre could have SWUM AWAY from Phillip to keep him from grabbing them in his panic. They could have kept their distance until he stopped flailing, she didn't need to MURDER him! Unbelievable.

reply

First, both husband and wife would have died on the bus with the rest of the people from the hotel had they not gone back to help Idun. There was a scene of him walking through the actual bus. There were no survivors. By going back the husband might have lived had he not tried to kill Idun and her son.

Second, it was a big room but there was only one spot where they could put their heads through the ceiling and into the vents. The water had risen too high at that point for them to get air anywhere else.

Third, the panicked husband was trying to drown both of them and almost succeeded before Idun made the only choice that keeps one or both alive. She tried other things to get him to calm but none worked.

He had to die.

reply

Agree. But to some of your points: she didn't know what happened to the bus when she did it, plus the destiny of the bus could have been different had she not wasted a few precious seconds by delaying its departure.

reply

She did the right thing. But the whole scene/sequence is just stupid. The water relatively rapidly arrives and then stops for like an hour once it reaches that ceiling opening.

reply

It wasn't "murder" because she didn't plan it.

Did she kill him on purpose? Yes
Was it homicide? Yes
Manslaughter? Maybe
Murder? No

It was self-defense. Don't generalize all killings

reply

You just can't take any chances with Norwegians.

reply

True. 

Except the guy was Danish. Which may be even worse, depending on where you stand on Danes.

reply

My position on the Danish is that they go best with coffee.

reply

Sorry. if he was trying to drown my son, I would kill him too. Cold blooded, yes. She tried to help him, but he was too panicked.

reply

Yea. The noble thing to do would be to chillax and just watch as the man drowns her son.

reply

Nobody is talking about how that door closed while there is tons of water pressuring out.

reply

I agree with other users that Idun killed the man in self-defense. He was trying to drown both Idun and Sondre. And with only a small area in which to breathe, there was no room to get away from the man. Idun was left with two options: let the man drown her and her son or kill him in self-defense. Regarding the statement that he tried to help find Sondre, he seemed to follow them back inside the hotel because of his wife, because he didn't want to leave her behind. In any case, Idun killed the man to protect herself and her son. It wasn't murder.
