Great little movie RUINED by amateurs doing the American English voiceovers. It was col seeing a couple of actors from Lillehammer in this one. I'd have enjoyed it in Norwegian with subtitles only.
Kristin's voiceover actor was horrible. The other voiceovers were barely okay.
By their facial expressions, I could tell the acting was fine.
I have no trouble reading subtitles. I think we Americans need to stop bothering with dubbing and, instead, appreciate films in other languages. We don't need everything to be in English. Besides, did you hear how many words that are the same in Norwegian and English? Hello, hi, can, ok, over, for, two, three, *beep* sh**, and others that I'm forgetting. It's interesting to be able to understand the actors sometimes. :)
shareYes, the dubbing cast was wretched. It almost ruined the movie for me. I can watch subtitled movies all day, but sometimes I want to do other things while listening to a movie, as was the case with 'The Wave.' The dubbing was by far the worst I have ever heard, and I love foreign films, subtitled especially. These, though, felt like the unfunny version of the 'Troll 2' of subtitles. Someone on this thread tried to say it was the Dubbing Director that was responsible for this abomination, but, how can every voice actor be so lacking in skill? No, I'm sorry, but that is not the case. Based solely on this film, none of the American voice actors should be hired in that capacity EVER again.
shareGotta agree, amateur dubbing, just reading their lines. Poorly synced in places, too. They should re-do it entirely, but I'm guessing there's no budget left for that. Presumably the Academy will watch it with the original voices and subtitles.
shareI had a choice so I used the subtitles. I probably wouldn't have watched it otherwise. It took me years to watch Oldboy in spite of all the great things I'd heard cause I could only find the dubbed. I don't mind subtitles at all. Only thing is you don't get forgiven for looking away for a minute here and there. Small thing. With that I can deal. BTW this film was excellent. I can picture a North American version being unbearable no matter what the budget. Think 2012.

shareI wonder if the rest of the world says the same thing about American movies voiced over by not-so-good actors. Must be similar? I mean who is good enough to voice over Tom Hanks, James Earl Jones, Sean Connery and all the other mega stars we have?
shareI agree, I tried to watch it in English but I had to switch to French (my first language) two minutes in. Much, much better.
