THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM
Why is it flopping? It is a remake. There is no originality. I am surprised no one has pointed this out.

sharei liked the '61 version, (Natalie Wood is stunning there) and admit i haven't seen this on stage etc
i have no interest in ever seeing this one.
Not a remake. Both based on the same stage play. Nobody complained about originality in 1961.
shareBecause no one had seen it adapted to the screen in 1961, right?
shareI speak of remakes with regards to MOVIE remakes. A similar thing happened with the Psycho remake.
shareOh, come on now! If the new film version of West Side Story by Spielberg is not a remake, then I don't know what the hell it is.
shareLack of originality can't be a reason for flopping when only one of the top 10 box office finds of 2021 was based on original material with the rest part of a franchise or a reboot or based on a theme park attraction.
shareSo you think originality sells?
Look at the top grossing films of any year and check to see if you find more mimicry or more originality.
Not just a remake but also a remake of a classic. Those who know and love WSS aren't going to be eager to watch this new version.
shareI just saw and prefer the original.in every way except for no.dubbing this time.
