very boring

unfortunately this turned out to be very dissapointing.
the plot is thin, the drama constructed and the comedy pointless.

reply

I actually found it very entertaining.

I did as well. While I wasn't really sure why they went with certain things (like del Torro's character's relationship for instance) I thought it did a good job alternating back and forth between the uneasiness and poverty of war combined with a good cast interaction and dialogue.

I'm in between you and paora-2. A relatively worthwhile missed opportunity. Any time spent w/ del Toro is worth a shot, though But yeah... Uneven, a bit timid, and occasionally flat.

You know I believe the trailer threw us all off. Because I see this as being a pure comedy. But the trailer used ominous music and quick cuts to give it a thriller look to it.

reply

Might I suggest that you stop watching trailers? I don't see the purpose in doing so unless you want to mislead yourself and ruin the viewing experience once you see the movie. Try watching a movie that you know very little about, besides maybe the basic plot, and you'll see how much more you enjoy it since everything you see will be an unexpected surprise that wasn't spoiled by all the scenes you saw and lines you heard in the trailer.

reply

I agree with you 100%.
And from your icon, I can deduce that you expect BreakingBad-level plot... which I have yet to find in anything ...
The closest to good writing Vince Gilligan like was "Narcos" ...

Too much time spent riding aroundin those vehicles. The cow trick got old the first time. Tim's part was tiresome, with his jokes strung out way too long. There was no passion betweeen Benicio and the woman, zero chemistry. It was hard to believe they had had anything going. There was no tension; no sense of real-time menace. Benicio's part is just to play somebody who is very tired, disillusiond but kind. That doesn't make for much excitement or convey a sense of danger. A stronger script with a few cliffhangers would have helped.

reply

I think the script is correct and please dont expect adventure story from the Civilian Aid workers in war zones.
I have been as a Civilian Contractor in hostile environments in two different War zones.Believe me the movie is correct in many ways and deserves more then 10 minutes of standing ovation as stated in Trivia.
The movie tells us not just War is bad,its also tells us how our hands are tied against Army Protocols and bureaucracy even in this areas.
No matter how many bad things you see,and you know in just minutes you can fix the situation to help local people but suddenly you hear the voice of a commanding Person ``do your job,you are not here to empathize with the locals``.
So i can totally understand the message that the movie gives to the audience.
And Please dont forget war is money for Companys but its a big wound that will never heal for the Civilians.

And what a waste of two beautiful actresses...always swathed in winter jackets, a boring sexless film centered around a disgusting corpse in a well and the search for a rope to pull it out.

I so very much disagree. I loved it.

I'm with the OP. That nighttime discussion on the hood of the SUV between Benecio Del Toro and Katya was the snooziest part.
