Rogelio is the most diappointing part of the show

Anyone else find his scenes annoying? Especially when he's away from the rest of the main cast. He was quirky at first, but his constant presence gets kind of grating. Prefer him as a guest star, rather than him being a recurring cast member.

Wow, that's a first! You must be in the 0.01% of population who aren't charmed senseless by Camil. What did you think of him in the 1st season?

reply

Lol I was coming to say the same, I think this is the first post I've ever seen on here saying anything negative about Rogelio/Jaime.

What the hell is a Stiles?

reply

I've got nothing against the actor. It's the character itself, I'm not fond of. He's so dramatic and over the top, that I can't invest in such an unrealistic character (yes, I know it's a show, but I can't suspend my disbelief that much).

Rogelio is the greatest human that character that ever lived! what?!
if they take him out of this show, i'm gone!

I somewhat agree... Rogelio works best when he is around Jane or Xiomara or Michael. In scenes where Rogelio is the touchstone, I find his personality somewhat overbearing.

I might be a little bit in love with Rogelio.

Judging from interviews, the entire JtV cast and creator are in love with Camil regardless of age and gender, so not that surprising! 

I'm actually with you on this. I know, I know - I can already here the cries of 'HOW DARE YOU!' I already got that reaction when I posted it on another forum. But I'm sorry, I'm just not as charmed by him as everyone else. I actually find him more stupid than funny at times. I have nothing against the actor, I think he does an amazing job with his delivery of the character, its definately more to do with how he's been written. I know he's meant to be over the top but I just don't think they've gotten the balance right with that and him being more serious on occassion.

I know people love his bromance with Michael but I've never understood that either. I don't understand the love for Michael fullstop but this relationship seemed to just spring out of nowhere and its JUST WEIRD! He turned against Rafael before even meeting him purely because of Xo and then was #TeamMichael after meeting him, what, twice? It just never sat well with me.

I know I'm in a very small minority but I could stand for slightly less Rogeillio or one that shows his serious side a bit more consistantly.

I'm actually shocked to see that he's not as funny this season as the first and I chalk that up to the material. Camil's not being used well at all now and what is up with all the semi-nudity? He does not have the body worthy of showing off so much.

A lot of the actors were not used well in season 2. I think that season 2 is more one of quantity than quality. I frrl that with many things, in particular with Rogeillio, that they found the audience responded well to in season 1 and magnified them but it was far too much. I found season 2 to be rather disjointed and way too gimmicky overall.

I second that. It also lost story focus. For example, the Rogelio stalker story-line had so much more to be mined out of it, but it just got dropped so fast. The relationship with Dina should've started earlier because she's a such a refreshing no-nonsense character, and is a huge improvement over the never-ending soap opera of Xo an Ro.

I find that they also undermined Gina's performance by making her cry too often. She's such a vibrant, high energy actress - weepiness just wastes her talents.

Justin Baldoni's acting somehow got even worse - for the love of God or whichever supernatural creature, PLEASE let Raf get killed off already! Or put in a coma, or whisked away by aliens. ANYTHING to get rid of him.

I'm bummed that the Michael's new partner got written out - I really liked the actress (something about her is so quirky and distinct).

Rogelio is on the best part of the show!

Worst is that super boring vanilla flavor Michael.

reply

Yes! I agree.

Rogelio is the best part.
Michael is boring.

Team Raf!

I agree with the points about story focus. I think the writing for Rogelio can get lazy, which means the script sort of goes "Oh, but it's Rogelio - it's okay if it's nonsense!" But then he stops being real. I thought his material in the premiere was weak, and lacked logic. What does a couple of fans tweeting a picture of him at the hospital have to do with the Amber alert tweet he sent? The two situations had nothing in common, and it's just lazy to say "Oh Rogelio is shy of any tweeting right now!" That's silly. His tweeting the Amber alert happened during an active police investigation and alerted the public to Mateo missing when they wanted to keep it down low. Michael in the hospital was a completely different situation. It's like they stretched the situation to have him have to pee, so he'd toss it out, and Xo would volunteer hers, and then remember she was pregnant. Why did she volunteer hers, anyway? Couldn't he pee again?

I also agree that the stalker/kidnapping story could have gone further, or at least had more of a fallout.

I'm not sure if Judy Reyes/Dina should have been set up sooner. It did seem as if they jumped in. There had been zero visible attraction on her part - not even a rapport. But anyway, she's too much like Xo. Yes, Xo's a little dramatic and wild, and Dina is down to earth, but both ACTRESSES are very grounded, so IMO they sort of duplicate each other.

Rogelio's story is just currently a mess because of the whole "I want a kid" thing. That is utterly unbelievable and contrived. That's another thing about Dina. If Rogelio wants kids so much, why isn't he getting off the pot and dating younger women who might possibly want a baby? What's he doing with Dina?

Rogelio is my favourite character. He's the best part of the show.
