First I thought the cop will think they are some kind of domestic terrorist type fanatic people like in Red State, and they will get in trouble but instead he thought they are just a bunch of harmless freaks

Are you sure? Imagine a whole parish of church goers shutting down a police precinct because they violated their separation of church and state.
