Politically correct liberal BS is everywhere.

I don't give a damn what side of the issue you're on, but I hate this garbage making it into so called "comedies."

This is supposed to be set in 1996, before all this "undocumented" and other PC garbage was being spewed.

The show has sucked this season anyway, I'm done with it after this last episode. Unfunny comedy, it had such great potential.

You're so dumb. This "undocumented" and other "PC garbage" has literally been going on for decades. Remember, just because you're not aware of it doesn't mean it's not part of other people's lives. I really wish people with your mentally would realize that. But that's how ignorance works I guess.

And it's totally fine if you don't want see it or hear about it, but you need to realize that it's not garbage to millions, and therefore it will never go away. See I find people like you, with your "PC garbage" rants, unnecessary and stupid, and yet, here you are. You're not going to stop and go away, are you? Why should they?

reply

1996, the language is wrong for the period. Referring to illegal aliens as "undocumented immigrants" was not in vogue yet. In a few years the PC crowd may be referring to burglars as "uninvited guests," but that will not make it the correct term for any program which is supposedly set in this time period.

Did you miss the part where I said I don't care which side you're on? This was about the injection of politics for the sake of injecting politics, the storyline had absolutly zero comedic value in the episode.

You were too busy hurling insults that my point flew right over your head.

A comedy which injects one sided politics so heavy handedly as this last episode did isn't even pretending to be funny anymore.

Not insulted at all either, I must first value your opinion for that to happen.

The thing is, a Prop 187 was real and introduced. Not sure if Florida had it, but I know the State of California had it and it was an initiative to establish a state-run citizenship screening system and prohibit illegal aliens from using non-emergency health care, public education, and other services in the State of California.

I do know/remember, however, that they were using terms "undocumented immigrant"... I remember it more of "illegal alien", so that I can definitely agree with.

reply

Agreed, unfortunately there's literally no where left for escapism.

reply

BINGO, somebody give this man a ceegar.

My point exactly, sitcoms are supposed to be pretty mindless excercises with some humor thrown in to offer a little respite from what's going on in real life.

Please tell this to the writers of Saturday Night Live. They need to be reminded of this.

SNL is still on? Just kidding, I used to watch it years ago when it had at least a few funny skits during the show. Now, thanks to the net I can just see if anything was funny on the show and bring up those specific skits without wasting time with the other 95% of the show.

For the most part I disagree with most of the politics on SNL, but I can still laugh even when they're attacking something I may like, because they've made it funny.

Back to the original post, the show being discussed here is much different though, as it's a sit com. You can do politics and social commentary on a sitcom. Nobody really minds as long as it's funny and not too heavy handed. The writers/producers of FOTB (and many other shows) seem to have completely forgotten this.

I have been enjoying this show for the mindless entertainment it is, I think it will go back to the clever humor and story lines after the election is over. If it doesn't, it's off my watch list too.

if it was any good they'd have made an American version by now - Hank Hill

Yeah, excellent point. FOB and SNL are like apples and oranges. I was just thinking about the past couple of years of Weekend Updates on SNL. They're not even trying to disguise their heavy-handedness with humour. It's pretty much blatant sermons, telling the audience how to feel. And during this election period, the preaching is really in-your-face.

reply

I was an avid fan of The Daily Show for the longest time. I may be dating myself, but I remember watching it when Craig Kilborn was the host. It was genuinely funny without being overtly offensive or preaching. I stopped watching years ago when it became (to use your descriptive frase) "blatant sermons."

These shows (and people) started to take themselves WAY too seriously. Stewart became obnoxius, and I tried to watch a couple of the episodes with the new Noah guy, it's about as funny as a childs funeral.

I agree with SNL too, it was funny before it started taking itself too seriously. Now it seems like they sit around the table and ask "what agenda should we push this week" instead of "who's go some funny ideas for this weeks show."

I wonder sometimes how programs like SNL are still on. But if you look back at some of the disasterous seasons/casts they've had, SNL is like a rat or cochroach, it seems to survive everything.

That's hilarious!!! So true!

That's exactly how it is. You hit the nail on the head.

Good question. I think with REALLY long running shows that had serious past glory like SNL (and The Simpsons, for that matter) networks just can't seem to let them go, no matter how long it's been painfully obvious that they're running on fumes. And like, the last of their fumes, too.

reply

Saturday Night Live is satire based on topical issues, "FotB" is not in that category.

And what about All in the Family?

reply

"Last Man Standing (2011)" seems to strike a good balance. The main character seasons his lines well with his political perspective, but doesn't preach at the audience. The liberal daughter, progressive son-in-law, and moderate wife provide a balanced political perspective, and at times, their points of view intersect - which is played for comic effect, but is still refreshing.

reply

You're not the only one. The actual Eddie Huang said *beep* this *beep* after 5 episodes. This show is soooooo *beep* white washed, it has gotten annoying.

reply

Also, This pissed me off from the start, Randall Park is *beep* Korean. Not Taiwanese. Seriously, WTF.

reply

If I were of the PC persuasian, I would have to say it was very racist of them to cast a Korean in the role. They're basically saying "all Asians look alike anyway, nobody will notice if we put a Korean in the role." They could have made his character someone of Korean descent who was raising in Taiwan and it would not have made any difference to the show.

Since I am anything but PC, casting a Korean doesn't bother me in the least, suspension of disbelief etc.

Nobody will ever call them on it, as those reponsible for this show tow the leftist Hollywood line pretty well, that's the only thing that matters to the PC endoctrinated.

reply

They've casted non-Italians to play Italians and vice versa. Same with Irish and all sorts of different heritages.

reply

Cobram:

Having a Korean actor play a Chinese person isn't "racist"--what a stupid thing to say. They're both Asian, but of different nationalities, not races--get that straight. So your comment really makes so sense at all, because race and nationality are not even the same thing. Learn the difference.

reply

Right? It happens all the time in cinema. Hugh Jackman is an Australian but was cast as the X-man, Wolverine - a CANADIAN.
Are they tryyint to say wall white people look the same?
You're silly.

That's why I drink using a crazy straw - Not so crazy now!

Peter Linklage in Game of Thrones really pisses me off - he ain't English?! Who are they fooling?
Don't get me started on those damn foreigners in the Walking Dead cast, like the lead, Rick.
Radha Mitchell in Pitch Black/Silent Hill
Lucy Lawless in Ash vs Evil Dead
Emilie de Ravin in The Hills Have Eyes

Only Americans should play Americans!

Precisely. The series is pandering more to the slangs and ideology of 2016 than how it was back in the 90's.

I still watch FotB as I enjoy it but it tends to have several bad apples in episodes. The mother and her nonsense, for example.

reply

There is a lot of laziness in the protection value of this show with lingo being one of many.

For example they don't even try to make the kids clothing in the school look 90s. They could easily go buy some Retro Jordan's, a few vintage basketball jersey's and some flannel shirts for the extras and at least try to make it look like a school in the 90s. In the last episode most of the kids had Chucks on. Sorry Chucks were not even popular in the 90s. Where are the mushroom haircuts and fades on boys? Where are the Jnco jeans/shorts? Where are the urban style boots and Vans? I went to a minority school and saw all of this. Their white school certainly would have had some of these styles.

reply

Calm down allot of you take this show too seriously . You all need lives it's not healthy to get this angry over a sitcom.

I'm Blade brown, the Dopest, ,hypest brotha, on the block!

I'm tired of you damn right wingers always whining about something and calling "PC garbage" simply because you hear new and more respectful terms to describe people of color that aren't disrespectful racist bull****. That's basically what you mean. Also the whole PC thing (when right wingers simply tried to dismiss anything liberals did or try to change as "politically correct", did in fact start in the early '90s (I know because I'm old enough to recall when all the bruhaha around being PC started.) Also, the term "politically correct" has been around since the '60s, when it meant something completely different---look it up and find out. It you don't like the show, or anything supposedly PC, then just don't watch TV at all, then.

Also, you're whining that you don't like a show because it uses a PC term you don't like? Give me a break. The show isn't right or left wing, but it kills me how you right wingers just love to use anything to shove your damn right-wing political views down anyone's throat. Move the heck on and get a life, please.

reply

Wow, is the irony of you pigeon holing and stereotyping someone else and a group of very diverse people based on your very obvious biases lost on you? Then accusing someone else of ramming something down your throat when that's exactly what your entire post was about?

All based on a post which started out with me saying in no uncertain terms that I could care less what your beliefs or opinions on this PC garbage you're spewing is??

The irony absolutely burns.

If your intention was to insult, that was a fail, to insult me, I must first value your opinion.

Cobram:
No, I just called you on your stupid,narrow-minded right-wing BS. Everything you don't like isn't "PC" just because you don't like or agree with it. I don't give a damn what the hell you think, and tired of you right wingers just flinging the term "PC" around when half the time you probably don't even know what the hell it really means, other than using it to insult and whine about liberals this, liberals that, blah, blah, blah. Also, politics is part of life----I'm tired of you right-wingers thinking you are the only damn ones allowed to express your stupid right-wing bull**** all the time. You don't have a claim on being more patriotic than anybody else, which is what you delusional right-wings nuts who voted for that stupid idiot fool in the WH seem to think.

reply

Ouch, you seem angry. Would you like to borrow one of my guns so you can kill yourself with it? When you take shows about comedy and make into politics, you deserve to die painfully.

I hate when the internet make pussies like you feel special.

reply

Cobram: Did ya notice also the hidden morality play in this and in the election episodes? Jessica, the political conservative in the family, gets a taste of her own medicine; gets the tables turned on her, and she's the one banned from attaining citizenship. That, also, left a bad taste in my own mouth.

reply

But it only made a statement on people who are in a grey area.

People like the restaurant worker who were brought over as children (and are living in the only country they ever knew) and people like Jessica who have a legitimate right to be here but made a mistake in the paperwork.

There are even conservatives who are open minded about people in situations like that. It wasn't saying that immigration laws are fundamentally illegitimate or anything.

reply

I like that - gray area.
