Comcast doesn't allow abc content to stream

I went to abc.com, to Hulu...

"Due to content licensing restrictions with our content providers, this content is only available through a participating TV provider. If you are a subscriber to a participating providers, you can connect your account to Hulu for access to new episodes for select shows the day after they air on TV. Otherwise, episodes will be available on Hulu.com following any standard delays."

"Select Your TV Provider"

Okay, I typed in COMCAST and got:

"We're sorry, your TV provider is not a participating provider for this content."

COMCAST owns NBC and NBC Universal, and the'll be damned if they are going to allow ABC (Disney) content run over their (NBC) wires without folks forking over humungously more chunks of money, in essence: getting paid triple times over. They get paid by 1. customers pay for their cable service, 2. they get paid for by the advertisers for the commercials you can't fast foward, 3. you have to pay for any past season of regular tv shows and 4. they want to get paid even more, for anyone to stream....a different content provider (abc) than their own (nbc). Talk about greed....

They're at war...content providers with the dinosaur cable companies that began buying content stations.

All good reasons not to subscribe to Hulu.

If you subscribe, it's Hulu Plus and you do get Selfie on Plus.

I have AT&T Uverse and I have no problem logging onto ABC.GO.com and streaming all the episodes.

reply

Try going straight to hulu.

I was able to watch all episodes up to episode 9.

I just watched the new episodes on Comcast. It's under their "On Demand" section under TV Shows. It was free.

reply

Used to catch up with it On Demand with work schedule not permitting me to watch it live. But my TV provider decided to sell out to a smaller regional provider who's On Demand section was a joke and infrequently updated. Fortunately if you google "watch selfie", there are plenty of other options to stay up to date with the show.

You can watch all ABC shows with the WATCH ABC app if you have Comcast. Download the app and sign in with your Comcast provider. Hope this helps.

Looks like one more reason to pirate. People pay a ridiculous amount for cable in the U.S. The least they could do is let you watch the shows you want,How you want.

Just get 100MB connection, 1TB hard drive and set up rss auto download torrents.(Optional) run Kodi/XBMC.

Yes they do. Another reason to not pay a cable company.

However, "Selfie" is available on Hulu Plus and I believe on ABC.com.

Yet another reason why internet neutrality must be ensured.
Personally, I think big cable companies like Comcast should go out of business rather than ruin things for everyone. And screw Hulu for playing along with this crap!!!

Hulu doesn't have control over the content they are allowed to stream. Blame the cable and satellite companies. Blame the networks. Hulu and HuluPlus can't force any of them to make their content available on their site. I'm so tired of Hulu getting the blame when it's the greed of THOSE major corporations trying to squeeze every dime from viewers. Do you really think they're going to be happy if people have full access to ALL of the latest shows at the bargain price of $8/mo? When they're charging thousands a year? Why would anyone pay for cable if they could get the same shows from Hulu?

Why would cable providers or networks WANT a cheap option like Hulu to succeed? Answer: they most certainly do not. So they play stupid games with their "provider" restrictions, attempting to force viewers to pay for cable instead of streaming it over Hulu for free or only a fraction of the cost. I contacted Hulu about the lack of accurate viewing availability for provider restricted programs and they told me that the networks won't even TELL Hulu when the shows will be available for streaming. I'm sure they are well aware that frustrated viewers will take their anger out on Hulu instead of them. Lay the blame where it belongs!

I did not know all that.

I made a mistake and posted under the wrong thread. Most of the posts I've read on this topic tend to blame Hulu for not streaming their favorite shows--though other internet providers (including network websites!) have the same problem.

Have you wondered why you can't even stream certain programs on their own networks' websites without proving you pay for cable or satellite? It boils down to how they adjust the value of the advertising dollar. On tv it's based on the old-fashioned "Nielson" rating--the audience, how many people watch a show. The more of an audience a program has, the more valuable the advertising space and the more the network can charge for that space. Many of the networks are not outright owned by Comcast and Time-Warner, etc., so they have a direct stake in limiting online streaming coverage (which is also why they want to be able to throttle streaming and limit coverage by successful competitors like Netflix and Hulu). Until they change their business model and give online programming the same weight as television, ads sold for streaming programming won't produce the same revenue. It's the dollar that matters and right now everything is skewed to favor the "old guard", ie, television broadcast services(cable/satellite/network).

Still, I had missed the fact that this complaint was about Comcast--and Comcast certainly bears the blame. Everything I wrote still applies, but at least it explains why I brought up Hulu so often!

According to Wiki - "Hulu is a joint venture of NBCUniversal Television Group (Comcast),[6] Fox Broadcasting Company (21st Century Fox) and Disney–ABC Television Group (The Walt Disney Company)". So the networks pretty much own Hulu, with the exception of CBS.

reply

Well, while I wasn't aware of the comcast connection, they're still trying to starve it out; restricting access to programming--that still leaves a huge number of networks not affiliated with Hulu. Consider CBS doesn't use it at all for one example, trying to sell their own over-priced app.
