Interesting Anachronism...

I love this film and it is now one of my favourites...

Doing some research I have found what seems to be a anachronism.

The trivia section says this film was based in 1985 but there was the whole 'Back To The Future' scene. Back to the Future came out in Ireland on December 20th 1985.

How is possible that he knew what the film was? Or was the time scale in the film longer then is shown?

It seems to me he started a new school after summer break and he built his band up over the next few months. There was no indication of a season change or something to suggest a lot of time has passed. Either this was a mistake or it can easily be explained, if so I am happy to hear what people have to say.

It's possible they saw it on a pirate video?

Though it doesn't gibe with watching an MTV which seemed 2-3 years late in 1985 ("Rio" and "Maneater" instead of "A View to a Kill" or "Out of Touch"?), maybe his older brother hipped him to what was going on in theatres across the pond. Might also explain why so many of his classmates have stupefied looks on their faces when he was trying to explain the scene he wanted to recreate.

They were watching Top of the Pops on the BBC.
