Miyazaki fans will love this movie!

I feel sure of it. A brave girl's quest, assistance from deities and demigods, a theme of restoring balance to nature, and the most awe-inspiring role for a goddess in an animated film since Gran Mamare in Ponyo. And it's so beautiful!

I thought there were many parallels between this film and Princess Mononoke. Moana's a lot like Ashitaka (her home is in devastation, brought on by an unnatural force, and she goes on a journey in search of a cure) while Te Fiti is very similar to the Nightwalker:
- there is a very particular scene where Te Fiti steps on the ground and plants grow immediately, it's almost identical to the Nightwalker's steps that bring life then take it away
- Te Fiti loses her heart and becomes a force of destruction, the Nightwalker loses his head and becomes a force of destruction
- in the end, both gods bring back life -- again, in very similar scenes, though I personally like Pricess Mononoke's better because it took time to show the growth and it was heart warming to see -- then go to rest again(Nightwalker in a different state)

Yes, this is where I saw a lot of similarities between this and Kubo and the 2 Strings, both seemed like movies that probably adults will get even more out of then their kids. Beautiful animation but also the storytelling here takes risks and is challenging.

Trying to create a channel based on interpreting, reviewing, and even giving you something to laugh about film. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance.
