Interesting battle between four films for animated Oscar this year

Moana, Zootopia, Finding Dory and Kubo and the Two Strings. All have got outstanding reviews and they will definitely fill four of the five noms for both Golden Globes and Oscar. Sausage Party as an adult film will probably fill the remaining slot to add some balance.

Sorry but I will never consider the Best Animated Feature award "interesting" until I am convinced that every nominee has a shot of winning. One of Moana, Finding Dory, or Zootopia will win regardless if any of those deserve to be awarded or not.

There are some really great choices this year. I don't really think Finding Dory is on par with Kubo, Zootopia, or Moana. I'd love to see Kubo win, but I think it's more likely Zootopia will. I enjoyed all of them- it's been a good year for animated films.

I think the battle will be between Moana, Zootopia, and Kubo and the Two Strings. Not sure if Finding Dory will be nominated with plenty other excellent animated films this year. Finding Dory may have gotten good reviews, but the consensus was that it was a step down from its predecessor, which I agree with despite my love for Pixar. I actually believe Sausage Party might have a good shot at a nomination, just for how outrageous and entertaining it was,

I am extremely hoping for Your Name to make it into the top 5 list, hell even a top 3 nominee list. Anime is always getting the short end of the stick when it comes to the Oscars. It feels like Hollywood just stroking their ego most of the time. Toy Story 3 should have never won that year and Summer Wars wasn't even nominated let alone should have won that year. This year will be tough though since so many good films.

Umm... 'Summer Wars' isn't all that well-received especially compared to 'Toy Story 3'...

Summer Wars is my second favorite movie of all time and quite well received by me, that accounts for a lot more than boring, mainstream critics drooling over Toy Story 3.

You are of course entitled to love whatever movies you want, but the Oscars exist to promote Hollywood movies. That is why they were created. Over the years, they have garnered a prestige that they do not deserve. The Oscars are not about picking the best (as if it were possible to do such a thing with universal agreement); they are about recognizing some well-made films. Many (most?) members of the Academy do not take their responsibility to vote for the best seriously, so why should you?

That said, Toy Story 3 was widely regarded by critics and moviegoers alike as a great animated film. Giving it an Oscar for Best Animated Feature that year is not surprising and not undeserved, even if some people in the world thought other movies were better.

I'm well aware of the Oscars lack of animation respect and this was an overly long response to something that was meant to be a little sarcastic. I really do love Summer Wars, but I was also just giving Block Busted a hard time. 

Yeah, sorry. I didn't mean to pick on you. Your post was just the accidental trigger for my mini-rant.

I just read so many posts about the Oscars not being fair, as if they've ever been fair to any movie ever, animated or not. Sure, sometimes the award goes to the movie I think is the most deserving, but the Academy is notorious for rewarding mediocrity and has been that way since its inception. It's a curious phenomenon to me that people care so much about an award which changes nothing. I was shocked and disappointed that The LEGO Movie did not even get nominated, much less win, but the movie and my admiration for it are the same regardless.

End of second overly long response. 
