CW has amazing shows, I do not know why everyone hates The Messengers

I thought this would be a lame show and not worth it but after watching the first two episodes, I take back everything! This show is an amazing show and I love the concept of 5 outcast coming together( 6 including Rose) but seriously it has the potential to become and amazing show. I pray that this doesn't get cancelled because I'm already sensing OTP'S (Josh and Vera, Raul and Erin ;)) I think the whole concept is genius and more people really should watch due to it being amazing and well written. Most shows have terrible scenes where the characters fall in love at first sight but, I think I'm this case it will take a while for the romances to develop and although I love romance, I'm glad this show has more to it then just a sappy love story! I'll definitely waiting for more and I hope they make a season 2!

Yes I know everyone has been upset due to it not being Sci-Fi but honestly guys, THERE HAS BEEN TWO EPISODES, TWO. How are you going to judge a show based on two episodes? I personally loved it as its diffrent from other shows on CW. CW has; Vampires, Hunters of the Supernatureal, Heros, 100, A virgin whos pregnant. I think that we need something like the messengers because CW has cancelled. mammy good shows, I do not want to see this one cancelled.

reply

To me, it's mildly entertaining, if a bit over the top with the hokey factor. I also liked The Tomorrow People though, so what do I know? 😛

reply

I liked that show too. Shhh.

I'm enjoying TM, but I dont see this getting a second season. But hey, look what happened to beauty and the beast!

reply

CW started this show in late april ?? and put it on late on friday nights??

I have to think they wanted it to fail and it did in ratings, and they wasted no time canceling it!
I mean why cancel it after 3 eps if your going to air them all?

this isnt my type of show, and I only watched to see Sofia Black, but I liked
it .
This show never had a chance as CW Exec's did all they could to kill it.

They could have used it as a late summer show. or started it back up in jan.

reply

Hmm. It's not on that late, and never forget the X-Files, a Friday night must see for how long?

Another thing, think of how many people don't watch TV shows at their air time. I don't have TV per se, but I never miss The Messengers on Saturday morning, as soon as I get up.

It was stupid of the CW to cancel it, with so many people watching shows non-traditionally.

reply

I don't exactly believe The Messengers is this great show, I mean come on, humans who wake up as Angels? Angels are supposed to be a completely different specie in Judeo-Christian mythology. That's not to say they have to base it on Christian scholarly work, and since I'm no Judeo-Christian so I could care less about the religious establishment being offended.

What I like is that this show is part of a long line of ridiculous Judeo-Christian apocalypse stories. I don't know why, but I just can't get enough of them and this show fits well with that.

So, again, while not a great show, I am really enjoying it because it's part of that genre. I'm talking everything from the god awful Left Behind evangelical movie series (Not the Nicholas Cage one, that was way worse than even the Kirk Cameron crapfest, and that's saying something), to the Omen I-IV.

And yet, despite being ridiculous I find them to be fascinating as hell. Except for the Thief in the Night. I tried watching that piece of s*&% and couldn't get past the opening musical number. Gives me shivers just remembering that small bit that I watched, 4 minutes of my life I can never get back. *shaking head*

At any rate, I've really gotten into this series The Messengers and have enjoyed how they've gone in directions that have at times surprised me and that other times were completely predictable. I can't say that I'd necessarily pay money to watch this show, but I would certainly watch it if they were to change their minds and make a second season.

reply

Sofia Black.. yeah, She looks really beautiful and natural in this show. I love to see her in this show. If u meet her. Say my hello from Indonesia ^_^

reply

sometimes people are just.. idiots =)
they see movies with robots that turn into cars, they see superheroes both in movies and shows, they see horror movies, they see shows with deamons, they see all kind of entertainment of stuff they know it´s not true or dont belive in. But a Good or angels themed show/movie?! "oh! wait a minute! God doesn't exist! stop doing this kind of shows! stop shoving god down our throat!" etc etc...

so thats why a lot of people on imdb for example will rate low even if they dont see the show.

I loved The Tommorrow People! I can't believe they left us hanging like that! I know alof of people who believe in God but they find this show entertaining and I mean that's fine! You can Interpret the show anyway you want as long as you like it! And YES! Love Beauty and The Beast too!

reply

I loved the tomorrow ppl too..i hate it that it got cancelled, i watched it on the air but i noticed netflix has it. Why would they put a show on netflix that was cancelled, for ppl who didn't watxh it at the time to get addicted only to find out it was cancelled? Same thing with starcrossed, stupid cliffhangers that's nvr gunna get answered.
I like supernatural so i will give this show a shot. It looks good and entertaining.

reply

Netflix has lots of shows on their service that have only one season, why wouldn't/shouldn't they? Some of my favorite shows of all time only lasted a season, just because the story wasn't completed doesn't mean I don't rewatch the episodes that WERE made... I rewatch The Secret Circle one or two times per year, I just recently rewatched 666 Park Avenue.

When it was on I only saw the pilot of Star-Crossed and only half the season of Tomorrow People, but I intend to watch both on Netflix. They're pretty high up in my queue.

mrumble, i loved THE TOMORROW PEOPLE and STAR CROSSED! i was pissed they both god canceled. i love BEAUTY AND THE BEST (despite a lousy 2nd season) and i'm excited for season 3 to start next month.

reply

But a Good or angels themed show/movie?! "oh! wait a minute! God doesn't exist! stop doing this kind of shows! stop shoving god down our throat!" etc etc...

Yeah, I've noticed that too.

'I don't believe in God or angels but I do believe in demons and aliens.'

They really don't see the hypocrisy, do they?

Happiness must be earned.

reply

Not believing in The Force didn't stop me from enjoying the Star Wars movies, nor did not believing in wizards stop me from enjoying the Harry Potter movies.

Not subscribing to a religion and or a God doesn't stop me from enjoying Christian-themed apocalyptic shows with angels and demons, either. They seem to be being made more now, because vampire stories, and several other more popular supernatural creatures have been done so often lately, it's hard to find an original take on them. (I am enjoying Izombie.)

Einstein said the Chances of us being the only Life in the Universe are somewhat small to near reasonable because of the Universe Being HUGE..

Yes God Doesn't Exist. Jesus was Just a man and the 1st Loony Put to Death because there was no Loony Bin to throw him into.

I really Don't care if this has Religious Bull Crap or not.
It's all Entertainment to me.

As the X-Files say, The Truth is Out there Somewhere ;) :)

reply

Supernatural has angels, demons, god. Same network even. Probably around a dozen other recent shows around similar supernatural creatures, which also contain mild amounts of demons and angels. Only they were all done better and had better acting. It's true the premise for this show has potential. Unfortunately that doesn't make up for bad acting and writing. I also enjoyed the tomorrow people and many other CW shows. The Messengers a feel they wouldve stood a better chance if they made it clear before hand what the show was going to be about. But once people saw it was yet another show related to demons vs angels or supernatural creatures in general, they realize they are started to get bored of it a bit unless it's something more unique rather than a simple angels and demons story about the apocalypse. I've found myself to become less and less interested in Messengers with each episode. Especially when I see the guy playing the devil. Such terrible acting.

reply

I think you hit the nail on the head. It's not a bad premise; it's just that it's boring, and Supernatural did a better job.

reply

It's not boring. It's just moving at a slower pace to build story and plot and I guess some people don't understand that concept in our instant everything world.

reply

You know, I've watched a lot shows and movies that are a slow burn (I love old movies from the 30s,40s & 50s). It depends on how it is done. I think they went about it wrong in the case of this show. On top of that my question throughout the entire series was...what happens next? They stop the horsemen, it's over...they fail to stop the horsemen, it's the rapture and it's still over...I have been trying to figure out how they would carry it through to the next season.

I am a huge fan of shows that tell the story in a sedate way...but as an emotionally driven watcher (ie: I have to have an emotional connection with the show or the characters) unfortunately this show failed me. I think the only character I really liked was the scientist's partner and even then it's not enough for me to remember any of the characters names except for Rose for some reason. If I can't remember the character's names this far in, then the show is missing it's mark, sadly. It is a show with potential. It could have done some interesting things but...there's something missing...and that's where it lost me...and believe me I'm not an instant gratification kind of person like so many these days. :)

reply

Also the show was cancelled again with a plot twist like every other cancelled show in CW

reply

True.

I always rate down religious propaganda because of the propaganda.Even if its quality material.

You cannot blame me though, you have to leave the judgement for someone else.I don't have that luxury.I have to judge everything myself.By my standards. And my standards say religion is bad...k?

reply

I'm a bit skeptical about religion in shows but it depends on how it's presented. Supernatural lost me because it got a little too heavy handed with it for a while. This show is a bit like that too. It has a little something extra that will see me through to the end but I really struggle with religious themed shows that only acknowledge one as "true". Usually I get annoyed because, as you said, it feels like the show has an agenda beneath the story telling and it gets on my nerves after a while. Other shows weave the themes in but in such a way that they are not hitting you over the head with it quite so much...I enjoy Sleepy Hollow and Constantine for example. This one just went about it in a way that made it feel like it had an agenda.

reply

Just do not understand why it is so important that he has to convince her "you have to believe me" Is it because if she doesn't believe he, he is going to commit suicide? Walk away. I am not going to spend a second more to convince anyone who does not believe me. Go pray in the church. She is not going to fall for you.

reply

You're missing the point, is not believing in magical beings or whatever, is to believe that they do have gifts and they can save humanity from apocalypse (by the way, is listed as science/fiction, aka not real >_>

reply

Because it is labelled a religious show.

reply

I get that but honestly I'm not Christian but I still know that this is just a show and not real life.

reply

What does being christian or not have to do anything with it? From the perspective of a scientist, religion, angels, demons, the *beep* our cultures have hold onto for "faith" are obviously fictitious. So why would that even matter at all? Every day we watch so many shows on TV about things that are not really real, we are aware of it. Does it mean you have to believe in something because it's on TV? It's for pure entertainment. Yeah there were angels but it wasn't about praising God or preaching nonstop. Was about "heroes" to save the world, like Batman or Spiderman, or if you watched Sleepy Hollow too, like Abby and Ichabod. -.- I don't...get how people slip themselves off the genre classification of this shows. It's fiction, NOT REAL! XD

reply

It's labeled as Science Fiction/fantasy with a religious theme, just like at least a dozen other shows have been over the course of TV history. The bias against it is really quite silly.

reply

The concept and the first episode were promising. The second and now the third have dropped off the chart. The concept is still good, and I don't blame the actors. But the episode story lines and the dialogue is cringeworthy they are so bad. Maybe they can get their act together if it sticks around long enough to avoid cancellation. I'll take a break from it and come back for another try if it's still around at the end of the season. I can't take anymore for now.

reply

That's kind of where I'm at. The first episode was interesting enough, second episode 2 even when the whole god thing gets brought up the coma lady brushes the preacher assumptions aside making it appear god is just a higher power and religions are incorrect....then the intro sequence for ep 3 and well, if that's the intro they went with and with that voice over well pretty sure that indicates where the show is heading.

reply

Because the CW hires models and then gets them to read lines. The scientist is hot, the jaded teen swimmer is a emo pretty boy, the mom is hot, the preacher son I think was from a Burberry ad I saw once. Even the *beep* alien who came down in a meteor. They don't hire actors, they hire models. The Flash, The 100, Arrow, The Originals....models models models. There are no real people in these shows. I can't watch a CW show without laughing and shaking my head. Pretty people with their pearly white teeth being all badass and *beep* I'm actually struggling through the first episode. Just a horrible, horrible show.

reply

^ This. No ordinary people in that universe, all models, very pretty and glamorous - heck even Lucifer is a major hunk. But almost all American TV-shows are the same, a lot of beautiful young people who can not act even if their life was depending on it.

- it's ridiculous. Besides that the show suck anyway.

reply

Firstly, I enjoy the show. It's not as well written or produced as Supernatural but I like it and want it to succeed. You are not alone.

Now I am going to make a post about the one mistake the proudcers made.

The casting of Lucifer

Thanks

reply

Okay so like I'm starting to realize how they honestly haven't given us that much info on their lasts and what's up with the two new angels? Where did they come from? Like the acting can be good but honestly we need more info

reply

^ Finding out things as you go is part of the whole point of the show. If they told us that info as soon as they brought it into the show it'd be lame.
