The promos looked so cool. But, when I actually watched one of the episodes, I was like this is BORING. Had no idea the show had already been cancelled. I agree it should have been given more time. I think they plan on airing all of the episodes.
After promoting a show if it's not dirt cheap too make an overnight success or a part of a giant franchise its DOA. The networks in America put lots of time and money into shows and now with every channel making original TV series' they will drive away millions of viewers if they twiddle their thumbs and hope it gets better. Their is just so many options why watch something boring every week when you can go too FX, TNT, USA, WGN , HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, heck even Mtv has original shows like Finding carter or Teen Wolf. That's just scratching the surface it's either hit or miss or go too Netflix and watch Daredevil (which is a great show I might add).
Netflix can also give full seasons because they aren't constrained the way network shows are. Network shows have to film the pilot, see if the network is interested and then film the rest. Netflix films it all at once and their shows are doing pretty good. Orange is the New Black (though I have't seen it past season 1) and Daredevil are great. It's too bad the networks didn't find a way to rethink their business model.
CW started this show in late april ?? and put it on late on friday nights??
I have to think they wanted it to fail and it did in ratings, and they wasted no time canceling it! I mean why cancel it after 3 eps if your going to air them all?
this isnt my type of show, and I only watched to see Sofia Black, but I liked it . This show never had a chance as CW Exec's did all they could to kill it.
They could have used it as a late summer show. or started it back up in jan.
The problem for me was that the show didn't actually get interesting until three or four episodes in. Probably what was even worse is that the first two episodes should have premiered together.
The UK nurtures shows? The UK has 6-8 episodes per Series for shows and then you have to wait 8-12 months (or 18 months in the case of Sherlock) to have more episodes. There aren't enough episodes to let them fail. How many TV shows (not soap dramas like EastEnders or Corrie) would survive a 22 episode series? The only show that I think could survive a 22 episode series is Doctor Who. I think shows like Downton Abbey would put the British public in a period era coma.
Doctor Who couldn't survive 22 episodes because they couldn't afford to film that many.
I think the comment about UK nurturing shows is crazy though. Not just because they commission so few episodes to keep costs down (thus the actors typically have to book as many jobs as possible to make a good living) but the networks in the UK typically commission a series and then it's made and maybe one day ... or better yet some year, they commission another series of the same show or maybe they never do. They have no regularity about when they air new shows so the entire year is just a mashup of whatever is on. Like Trollied... when is it coming back? Is it coming back? Red Dwarf...ok we get it this year but when? Doctor Who, oh how I love DW, but I think it's still up in the air when they will start airing the episodes this year. The UK networks do take some chances. I'll give them that, but they do so with so little commitment.
Another annoying consequence of the way the british tv industry works is that sometimes a show finally gets renewed but because it took too long the cast has already moved on and is tied up in other projects or not interested anymore.
So what do they do? Make another season anyway but with a replacement cast - which off course sucks major donkeyballs if you're a fan. Primeval, being human, misfits are some examples guilty of this.
So I agree, not alot of commitment in British telly.
Or sometimes the characters don't get a reboot at all and they just kill them off (Maid Marion from Robinhood and Matthew from Downton Abbey, the vampire from Being Human)
Sherlock If you have forgotten Shares Writers ..... The Main 1 Being the Awesome Stephen Moffat who is the Lead Writer (Soon to be Ex Lead Writer) of Doctor Who ........ It's Because of him that Sherlock has been put somewhat on Hold..
You *beep* A**H*LES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You put off airing a show for MONTHS, and then you CANCEL it after only FOUR EPISODES? You *beep* SH*THEADS!!! You mumbnuts ought to be scraping up dog sh*t, NOT deciding on which TV programs air(or not) on the WB!. If you *beep* HAD ANY brains, then you MIGHT (just) be able to do that type of job. The whole lot of you ought to contract cancer, and DIE ...If I only had a section of Chuck Heston's disco stick...
To be fair he UK doesn't have nearly the level of competition or expected market share as the U.S. And the Uk shows have very short seasons and it isn't as much of an investment. There are also some cultural difference. The U.K. shows have a tendency to gravitate more towards character development rather then plot development.
That being said, I agree that particularly the U.S. Networks pull the trigger often to prematurity. In this particular case I don't necessarily think this is the wrong decision.
Personally I prefer character driven stories to plot driven stories. I prefer that in the books I read and in the shows and movies I watch (probably why I enjoy old movies so much) But then I'm Canadian so...our culture is kind of a blend of British and US *shrug*
