I genuinely don't know what this show makes unique, but I love it. Perhaps it's a mix of good writing, acting and camera work, with a great atmosphere and quite credible police work.
Anyway, after a long day of work I love to watch one or two episodes with a nice cold beer. Just some quality tv to enjoy. What about you?
Exactly that. Everything about this show is fairly credible, the writing and the acting that ensues are very natural and have a good flow and every character is relatable one way or another.
It is, also, funny in a very realistic way. Take Johnson and Moore for instance. On some other show they would serve as comedy relief. Here, they are funny, but you also have to take them seriously as cops. That's just good writing and good casting.
I don't know either but I suspect it's because of Michael Connolly. It's the same with the books - it manages to rise above the saminess of the police procedural and manages to feel like something that really talks about being human, having a job, making a difference etc. I love the books and love the TV series.
Titus Welliver is miles away what i imagined Bosch to be like but he nails it. And Lance Reddick is amazing at saying nothing and letting his face tell the story.
Bosch himself is so senstive and bristly.
And his mother was a murdered prostitute.
Weird show.
