Thor became a joke.
Ragnarok has a lot of humor, more than some comedies, and it some of it is funny but Thor is the punchline of most jokes. So Marvel made Thor into a joke. Smooth move Marvel, lets see how that plays out in the long run.
shareNo, they just made him funny. I would even argue Ragnarok made him stronger by taking away his hammer, allowing his natural abilities to come to the surface. The only way he'd become a joke is if they joked about his abilities. They didn't. Ragnarok took them seriously, and even got closer to the heart of what makes Thor a superhero and not just a guy with a hammer.
shareThere is a difference between making people laugh and being laughed at. He or Loki were the butt of almost every joke. That isn't being funny. And Thor got his ass kicked by every woman in the movie, it's an obvious agenda to diminish the main male characters.
shareI'll have to disagree with that. Hela was stronger because she's supposed to be the Goddess of Death, not because she's a woman. It makes sense that a Valkyrie is stronger than Loki since Loki relies on his tricks to win his battles. I only recall three women in the movie, with only Hela fighting Thor hand to hand, the Valkyrie using the same electronic device to subdue Thor that the Grandmaster used, and the Grandmaster's henchwoman who died in her craft without ever fighting any of them hand to hand.
All they did was turn a Thor movie into a buddy duo movie of Thor and Banner riffing off each other. Sometimes the jokes were at Thor's expense. Sometimes they were at Banner's expense. And almost always they were at Loki's expense because he's Loki.
But it doesn't make sense for a fallen Valkerie to be stronger than Thor. Also Loki was stronger in previous movies.
shareI don't remember it showing her stronger than Thor. He was strong enough to beat Hulk and held his own against Hela. Valkyrie wasn't anywhere near that strong. In that short period between losing his hammer and learning his potential, maybe she was stronger, but the movie always shows her zapping him. I would argue she was his equal at best during that short period, but once he powers up to "god of thunder" she becomes heavily outmatched. They weren't enemies so we really never got to see it.
Loki in the MCU is a frost giant, not a real Asgardian, though he probably has the durability of one. There's nothing suggesting this version of Loki is stronger than a battle-tested Valkyrie who is thousands of years old.
Valkyrie wasn't stronger. She did beat Thor, but that was because she had the advantage of superior technology, and caught him unarmed, dazed, and at his most vulnerable moment. Because come on, if that fight had been hand-to-hand he wouldn't even have had to knock her over, because she was so drunk she could barely stand up! All he'd have had to do was stand there and wait for her to fall over! You can't beat that for a cinematic low point, being captured by someone who's that... hammered.
And Loki was never stronger, he was just smarter. But then, who isn't.
Oh please, Thor has always been slightly ridiculous, and that goes back to the comics.
So this movie took qualities in the character that have always been there and played them up, and the result was my favorite movie of the year so far.
I disagree. There is a climate of hate and bitterness toward men, especially white men, and this movie played into it to assuage feminist bigotry. Don't believe me, go read America Ferrera's IG.

Especially since you seem to have missed the fact that the movie showed the white straight male hero triumphant at the finale. Because yes, remember that after all the silliness and dopiness and fights and weirdness, at the end of the film Hela is defeated because of THor's cleverness, and the nation of Asgard including Loki and Valkyrie are standing respectfully by their new king, and the audience including me is cheering the white male hero who has triumphed over all challenges? Remember that? No, I guess not.
Bwahaha, just saw End Game where Thor is nothing but comic relief. Dude Thor.

I thought he was fucking brilliant. Such acting gifts as Chris Hemsworth possesses are in comedy, and he used comedy to show how badly Thor's heart had been broken by his failure to save the universe.
Which would be totally lost on those with no sense of humor, of course.
He has great comedic timing. He was the only good thing about Girlbusters.

I love him but I don't think he's a great actor, but he has a real gift for comedy. It's really too bad that Hollywood has lost the art of making good Romcoms, because that's the sort of film that needs lead actors who are both hot and possessed of good comedic timing. Outside that genre, there just aren't that many good roles for a really hot guy who's funny.
No, he lacks range for sure. I'd love seing him in a 48 Hourse type of deal though.
If you ask me, romcoms is to love what porn is to sex. And while I kinda hate the genre, those with Hugh Grant tends to be good.
To be honest, I don't think I've seen Hemsworth outside the MCU except for Girlbusters. But I really enjoy his Funny Thor. Most of the time. The goodbye from the Asguardians of The Galaxy was really cringy, and in all honesty - I'm getting sick of Chris Pratt. Loved him in Parks and Rec, and MCU up till GoTG 2. And don't get me started on the Jurassic Park films. But I digress.
I haven't read a Thor comic since the early 80's, but I remember him being a funny guy, much like the opening scene of Ragnarok. For him, that's just a day at the office. And I know I mess around a bit when I know I'll ace my task and make it look easy to boot.
For some reason, tons of good Romcoms were made in the 1990s, some of the best starred Sandra Bullock or Hugh Grant, and are and were great fun. Somehow the genre died in the new millennium, I don't know why but I suspect it was Kate Husdon's fault. Which is too bad for Hemsworth, the genre would be a natural fit for him.
And no, I haven't read the Thor comics but I've seen bits here and there on the internet, and they do seem to have a deadpan humor. I mean, they turned Thor into a frog, right? And that's the thing about Hemsworth's Thor in the Avengers movies, he's used deadpan and absurd humor since the beginning of his run, and IMHO that's why Hemsworth was perfectly cast - how many huge blond studly guys have such good comic timing? Seriously, whatever the Marvel Films casting people have been paid, it's not enough. They've cast almost all of the major roles to perfection!
Oh for sure. They even found someone who is a good Peter Parker and a good Spidey. Tobey was a great Parker and Garfield was a great Spidey.

I think Thor, the character in MCU, found that us Earthlings thought he was funny, and being the people person he actually is, he started being funnier. And him being the butt of many jokes, and "that's not how he used to be!". In Thor 1, if he's not the butt of a ton of jokes, he's the punchline. "I need a horse!". I may childish, but I thougt that was funny as hell. But I don't beleive for a second that he enjoyed the poor American excuse for coffee.
Oh for sure, all of the major characters are perfectly casted. It turned out so so good.

That drunk Valkyrie, just toss some ring chip that sticks to him and he is 100% defeated and endlessly zapped and carried around by everyone as if he were a child.
As I said in another thread, all they needed was the supply of zapper chips Valkyrie keeps on her ship and they could've EASILY taken out Hela and then Thanos. Hell just toss 50 of those zapper chips on Thanos (however many you need) and he's a joke. He's no threat at all. All those endless battles with Thanos....all they needed were Valkyrie's metal chips and they'd EASILY take him out.
To me that makes him pretty weak.
