Insulting to the GLBT community

One Big Happy is insulting to the GLBT community. Just goes to show that Ellen can't be trusted in my view.

How and why do you feel this way?

As a Bi-Sexual man who has a Lesbian Roommate, I am very confused as to why you think this show will be offensive to the community?

reply

How come tv shows and movies never hire actual GLBT actors to portray lesbians. Cuthbert is super hot, but is also married to a man and dated several NHL players, so no one believes she would ever be a lesbian. Unless, the show is just to provide a fantasy for men who just want to see Maxim models make out.

At least they hired one gay person to be in a gay marriage with a straight guy on Modern family.

It just seems that Hollywood is continuing to discriminate against gay actors even though they want to appear trendy with gay storylines.

It's called Acting for a reason. Chris Evans isn't actually Captain America and Hugh Jackman doesn't have sharp claws (?) coming out of his knuckles. These actors are playing a part and when it comes to things that can't be seen such as sexuality, anyone can play the part. You can't hire Jackie Chan to play Jackie Robinson, but you can hire a straight person to play gay if they so wish to take on the challenge.

Exclusion and discrimination go both ways. I know people who are mad that they hired a cis-gendered man to play a the main character of Transparent, a trans woman. Being mad that this actor is taking on a new kind of role to further his career as an actor is ridiculous. If they had cast a trans woman to play the role (other trans characters are in the show and they're played by trans people), then neato. I watched the show and found it great. Jeffrey Tambor did a great job with his role and I feel like he was convincing in his role.

My point is, don't be hating their casting choices until you see it!

You're right. No one will believe Elisha as a lesbian. They're better off going for the straight polygamy route than trying to pass her off as gay.

reply

To be fair, they also hire gay actors to play straight characters. Neil Patrick Harris wouldn't be where he is if they didn't.

reply

If all the straight roles were filled by gay actors, then that would be real progress for gay rights. Besides NPH, there are very few out-of the closet gay actors playing straight. There are more gay actors working in theater and broadway, but not so much in TV or film. Travolta is gay or bi-sexual but has never come-out-of the closet. There is a lot of discrimination against gay actors in TV and film. Replace Nick Zano with NPH and that would be an interesting show!

Yeah, that's what I really appreciate about the '40s movie, Rope: The two main characters are meant to be a couple, but even though the subtext is quite buried, it's still obvious to audiences that there was at least something more going on between Brandon and Phillip. They were played by a bisexual and gay actor, so it really seems to help with the way they interact with each other throughout.

So without seeing one episode or knowing anything about the characters uv already judged it as bad...hmmm, kinda iroinic...

Oh, calm the F down. It'll be cancelled by Tuesday.

The "lgbt community" is an insult to humanity and God, so this garbage and Ellen are no different or a surprise.

LeePace's Thranduil, Thranduil's not LeePace. Thranduil's perfection, LeePace's flawed. Both r mine!

Luckily the idea of a god is as much fiction as network TV is, so it's all good

The LGBT community is not an insult to humanity and God. They are not a sin and there is evidence as to why: http://www.wouldjesusdiscriminate.org/biblical_evidence/born_gay.html

You are an insult to humanity.

reply

Yeah. Sorry, my Gay roommate, and his Homo friends loved the show. I guess that means you loose your Pink Gay Card.

The fact that you thought Ellen could be 'trusted' in itself is hilarious. She's been a hypocrite inside the community for decades, not to mention with many other avenues in her life. Professionally and otherwise. Like her "Vegan" status while she still eats eggs and supports companies that promote animal testing.

I'm interested in what makes her a "hypocrite."
I understand that the GLBT community didn't vote for Ellen to be their face, and they'd gladly choose someone else. However, Ellen has broken down walls for the gay community whether they want to admit it or not.

I know she's not perfect....I'm really interested in hearing why that is though. Besides her faked veganism.
