The movie never outright says it, but I suspect that guy that caught them first and then left was planning on comitting suicide.

If you create a thread titled, "He/she looks like..." you are officially disturbed.
I thought he went up there to jump. The way he walked was so dejected, even the look on his face, the slump of his shoulders. He seemed very depressed. And I think the shock of seeing two other people up there woke him up and made him rethink his decision.
shareI just watched it again, and judging by the way he was peering over the edge and also that he was unwilling to engage in conversation, I think you are right.
sharePerhaps the man was a terrorist, doing some early planning as to how to best bring down these new symbols of capitalism. Obviously he could not contact the authorities, given his ties to Bin Laden (who was still a young man at the time).
