Already watched 'Man on wire'. Is this worth a go?
Already watched 'Man on wire'.So is this any better than the original footage and is it worth a watch after watching that?

No. ITS way worse
If you want to see the walk just go in a theatre the last 25 minutes
Man on Wire is the better movie, but this is still worth seeing, especially in IMAX. Even thought I knew what happens and I'm not scared of heights, I was still so tense and my palms were sweating for a substantial part of the movie.
Mind you, not sure how good it would be on a standard screen, the IMAX really made it. It's a bit cheesy in places (it doesn't really need the lasts 5-10 minutes), but it is a lot of fun and think JGL does capture Petit's exuberance pretty well.
Hope that helps!
The audience was quite audible during the finale. I saw it in New York City at the IMAX at Lincoln Square and it's only a shame that they are no longer projecting 70 mm film on that screen. The digital projector cannot reach the full width or height. Had it been projected the good old fashioned way it would have been even more extreme. This is a rare case of 3-D actually helping the film. Normally I despise 3-D and avoid it like the plague
shareI'd vote yes it's worth it. If you only see one, Man on Wire is the pick. That said, The Walk's last hour, particularly the titular scene, is very well done.

No. It's terrible. We walked out. Watch "Man On Wire" again.
I've seen both.... this is different but well worth seeing even if you've seen Man on Wire.... they've done a good job of capturing Petite's character.
shareI wondered the same thing. Was not sure the movie OR the lead actor could do justice to reality. I thought it was very well done. I actually liked the narration part from the Statue of Liberty, seemed to add to Phillipe's thought process. The documentary was better of course, but enjoyed this film.
Think of it like this:
Whereas the documentary told you about the experience, this shows you the experience. You're right up there with Philippe. It's breath-taking and so amazing.
Yes, it's well worth seeing.
shareWell said. I would even venture to stay this makes you "feel" the experience.
The moment he puts the second foot on the wire is truly astounding.
I find the documentary and this movie to be perfectly complementary.
It's going to depend on whether or not you want a stick up your butt. The two movies are good for very different reasons.
Man on a Wire - Great documentary that provides details and some great footage of the act.
The Walk - Great movie that takes you on the journey with emotion and is a fun ride.
Now, we have to remember that going to the movies can be a fun experience, but since Man on Wire wasn't released the way The Walk was, lets give the Walk its credit. It's a movie that actually takes you on the journey WHILE doing the walk, not just talking about it. Some people would rather drink wine and TALK about something, and others would like to go out and LIVE it. Personally, I think there is a time and place for both. I would suggest not limiting yourself to just one movie or the other.
