Ending/KillerThoughts.. Bring on the Hate Replies... I can take It.

Whether or not Tom swung the oar, it was still Joe's fault. He was the one up there w/ Danny in the first place; at least he was right that it WAS his fault. Tom was going after Joe, not Danny. Yes, there was a 'twist', but the killer was the same.

Tom should've told the truth straightaway, it was a complete accident and they would've seen it as such. If not for Joe being a wank, things might've turned out much different... for Tom, anyway.

What a let down, Gracepoint. I know it sounds harsh, but the writing was so sloppy. Yes, I realise it was suppose to be a remake of, Broadchurch, but even remakes aren't suppose to be word-for-word, shot-for-shot, and a lot (no, not all) of it was.

The acting, ranging from meh (David's) to horrid (nearly everyone else). It felt lazy; like they had just watched BC and tried to mimic it and not organic in any way. They were wooded and flat most of the time and I felt nothing for Danny's family or the people of the town. Not to mention, David' accent-- it was horrid. I could absolutely hear the Scottish through his accent and it would've been better to just keep him Scottish and go w/ it.

I suppose GP fans who haven't seen BC *are* tired of hearing the comparisons and the complaints we've been making all along, but that's what happens when a remake like this is done-- esp. in such close time proximity to the original.

Personally, I can't wait to get back to, Broadchurch in January! I strongly advise anyone who hasn't seen series 1 to watch it ASAP! (Before S2 starts!) I'm really looking forward to Hardy and Miller (David Tennant and Olivia Colman); they're excellent together! And, Eve Myles (of Doctor Who/Torchwood)!

It wasn't Tom's fault, it wasn't Joe's fault, it was Danny's fault. Clearly he didn't drink enough milk growing up. If he had, his bones would have been stronger, and the oar that twiggy Tom swung wouldn't have killed him.

The attempt to cover it up didn't make sense on so many level. Which father would bring his son into that situation? The boy killed someone - that is nothing one can just forget even if it was an accident, but the lying just increases the feeling of guild.

And why should he cover it up? He could have come up with a bunch of lies why the boy was in the hut and got upset which all would have been smaller lies than transporting a body and developing a legend, while having a teenage complice involved.

And in the end while the reactions of the Tom made sense, Joe just seemed too light-hearted, especially since the murder did not come from a sociopathic mentality but was an accident.

They stuck too close to the original to make a production with own merrits but failed in matching the quality of the original.

Joe isn't a normal guy. It was incredibly selfish of him to cover it up. He did it for his own protection, he didn't want his family destroyed and taken away from him. That's why he covered it up and it makes him an even more despicable man. Putting all this guilt on his poor son just for his own sake.

I do hope they make a second season. I am curious to know how the detective makes out with the heart surgery and relationship with his daughter. I want to know what happens to Ellie and the rest of the townspeople. Lots of stories could be told.

Why do people get hung up on accents? Many people work, live and travel all over the world and have parents that had done the same much more than they did 100 years ago. We do not know where Carver lived as a kid or even spent time as an adult other than he visited Gracepoint. People can have unique accents.

I don't mind accents as long as they are understandable for me. The one actor I have the most trouble with is Johnny Miller from Elementary. I like the guy, but I only get about half of what he says. At least Carter's speech is clear and well enunciated.

Finally watched this after watching S1 and S2 of Broad Church...

Ending made no sense to me in US version.

If *the killer* was the killer... why did he go to the woods earlier in the season? Why did he look for the hiker? That entire episode then made no sense...

reply

Because he was going to plant evidence to make Lars look guilty

And so that the US writers could keep claiming that Gracepoint would divert completely away from Broadchurch series 1.
