Ending out of nowhere? (Spoilers)

Did anybody else think the ending, specifically it being Joe miller, came out of absolutely nowhere? I dont mean in a "I didn't see this coming" sort of way but in a "made up at the last minute sort of way."

I still haven't seen Broadchurch (please no spoilers), and my guess is they made the show the same as that one then changed the ending abruptly to have a different ending. It just made it unnatural.

I didn't care for the ending very much. Same goes for Broadchurch.

Honestly, it might seem like it came out of nowhere, but it kind of HAS to be that way if you're gonna save the reveal til the last episode.

Even the slightest hint of any sort of relationship between Danny and Joe other than Danny being friends with Joe's son would have had people immediately pegging Joe as the killer.

The sad fact is our society has grown exceedingly suspicious of a grown man being alone with a child that isn't his offspring. Everyone who was deemed a suspect during the show, with the sole exception of Susan Wright (who was an actual suspect for what, maybe 7 whole minutes?), was an unrelated male who had spent some sort of "unsupervised time" with either Danny, Tom, or some other youngster or youngsters that otherwise had no bearing at all on the case.
