Disgusting, horribly depressing cesspit of a TV show

From start to finish. Genuinely angered me at times seeing how dim some of the characters were and just how evil others were portrayed.

Sarah Lancashire was phenomenal otherwise. The highlight of a tasteless programme which pretty much tried to out do itself with gutless acts of cruelty as each episode passed.

I hope the high rating is for the actors involved and not the scummy storyline.

Lol what? It wasn't that disgusting, except of killing that young cop, that was sad. Other than that it was pretty normal. It's crime drama, what you wanted there? It was perfect.

So rape and kidnapping of a woman and a pretty brutal last fight Lancashire has with the suspect are fine too then are they? You have problems Kalendar. The fact you've put "it wasn't THAT disgusting" shows me you know it's gritty realism violence levels are above the norm for a show.

And no show is 'perfect'. Any writer will tell you that. But 'Breaking Bad', 'Game of Thrones' and the first 6 series of 'Dexter' come mighty close.

Glad I saw Grantchester first. Watching all of the nasty things Tommy did, I kept thinking, "Nice acting job, Vicar!"

It WAS a horribly depressing cesspit of a TV show.

Can't wait for Season 2.

Yeah right. Stick to Downton Abbey then or The Arrow. So long.

To the OP: Might I suggest "The Smurfs" with all the parts of Gargamel edited out?

It is a dark show. Season 2 came out for some time before I actually watched it. While I admired Season 1 a great deal, I knew this show isn't for the faint of heart. I knew that if I didn't want to watch cruel acts with very unphotogenic, desperate people, I should avoid the show altogether. I think this show is very impressive for all its technical aspects - acting, writing, pacing, etc. But if I wanted to watch a pick-me-up, I'd watch a well-established comedy show.
