other shows like this you would recommend?

I'm Happy Valley obsessed, having now watched it both season three time over. It's now in my top 5 all time TV dramas. Breaking Bad is No. 1 without a doubt. I think Sopranos is No. 2, Walking Dead is No. 3, Downton Abbey and Happy Valley are tied No. 4. Also love Sherlock and Lost.

Can anyone recommend anything else like this? Love British shows especially. Thanks.

I recently saw the six episodes of River. It's also on Netflix, but was originally on BBC2. It a crime drama starring the always good Stellan Skarsgaard and Nicola Walker who was with Sarah Lancashire in The Last Tango in Halifax. Check it out.

The Night Manager is brilliant.

The one that strikes me as most similar is Cracker from the early 90s with Robbie Coltrane. It has a similar feel to Happy Valley - in the sense they are not pure police dramas - there are various subplots around the characters and their families.

A more recent example is Luther with Idris Elba. Much darker and more violent, set in some grim estates in London.

Surprised no one has said Wire In The Blood with Robson Green.

My favorite UK series are (in no order):

Original House of Cards/To Play the King/The Final Cut with Ian Richardson (Amazing)

Prime Suspect
Hinterland
Top of the Lake (New Zealand)
Inspector Morse
Touching Evil
Foley’s War
State of Play (not the movie British TV show)
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (1979 mini-series with an amazing cast. It’s often imitated, never improved)

Being Human (supernatural)
Peaky Blinders
The Fall
The Killing (Canada)
River (Sweden)
Murder: Lost Weekend
True Detective (first season only US/HBO))
Rebus
Wire in the Blood
Bloodline (US Netflix)
Rectify (US Sundance/Hulu)
Edge of Darkness (1985 TV series)
Republic of Doyle (PI comedy Canada)

I'm sure I left some off, I just don't remember what.

Scott & Bailey
Bedlam
The Straits
Line of Duty
