other shows like this you would recommend?

I'm Happy Valley obsessed, having now watched it both season three time over. It's now in my top 5 all time TV dramas. Breaking Bad is No. 1 without a doubt. I think Sopranos is No. 2, Walking Dead is No. 3, Downton Abbey and Happy Valley are tied No. 4. Also love Sherlock and Lost.

Can anyone recommend anything else like this? Love British shows especially. Thanks.

Some shows that I loved..

Shetland (2013)
Fortitude (2015)
Broadchurch (2013)

reply

I've watched Fortitude (love the settings of this show!) and Broadchurch but cannot find Shetland (with cc) anywhere!

reply

Well, to be honest, I got Shetland via a torrent site.

And yes, the setting of Fortitude is amazing.

"Cracker" with Robbie Coltrane

I think my percentage of Chimp DNA is higher than others. Cleaver Greene

"Scott & Bailey"
"The Fall"
"Endeavour"

Not a crime drama, but Doctor Foster (2015) starring Suranne Jones is excellent.

Older and tamer but still the best series ever....

Try: The Killing
Luther
Broadchurch

All similar very good shows

Unforgiven, also written by Sally Wainwright.

Second Line of Duty and Broadchurch and Scott and Bailey.

'For His mercies endures forever ' - Psalms

When I saw this recommendation (Unforgiven) I thought I would watch it and I ended up watching Unforgotten in error and have only just clicked that I watched the wrong show. However, that was also a good series so I am going to throw Unforgotten into the recommendation mix.

Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren

Also

"Beyond Good and Evil" episode of Inspector Lewis (where a murderer in prison has a fan gurl ala Happy Valley)

Although both are now rather old series, Cracker and Prime Suspect are exceptional and still stand the test of time. Robbie Coltrane's portrayal of forensic psychologist Fritz is a joy to behold, and he became an unlikely sex symbol to many female fans of the show (including myself!).

With regards to more contemporary Brit crime dramas, Luther is far and away the most superior. Idris Elba IS John Luther; absolutely mesmerising. If you need proof check out this clip:

I also highly rate The Fall, plus Scott & Bailey. Meanwhile I have friends and family who rave about Ripper Street, along with Peaky Blinders.

Happy viewing! 

gonna give Ripper Street a second chance since two people have recommended it to me again recently. I had watched some when it first hit Netflix, but didn't continue.

Jack Taylor. Love the Galway setting, and the writing can be really clever, "eg, 'Question: Even though you put years and distance between you and your family, how do they still know how to push your buttons? Answer: They installed them." Also Killian Murphy (from Love|Hate-the Dublin gangster drama) is in it... And is adorable. Lara Jeanne Noone is also lovely and amazing. The ensemble works together really well.

Love those. Hope they're doing more!
