Happy Valley, 2: O.K. Brits...

Absolutely brilliant!

Looks to be as good as series 1 if not better, the acting in this is excellent - makes me right proud!

Goodnight, good luck and may your God go with you

A very good start, shaping up well. I hope it is better paced than the ,otherwise excellent, first season, which ran out of steam in the last couple of episodes.

reply

Great start. Dark as *beep*. Tommy's lady friend very chilling. And "it's wank.....it's toss!" Was brilliant

reply

She's *beep* crazy, she'll do whatever Tommy wants her to.

I was praying it wouldn't succumb to the Broadchurch s2 curse and it definitely looks like this series will match if not eclipse the first series. There is a lot to digest after the first episode tonight but just how things might play out still feels unpredictable at the minute. Can't wait for next week....

First off, he should have known the mistress was a nutcase. When a woman threatens to show up to your front door, she will not take a split lightly. I loved Tommy's female friend. She looks absolutely nuts.

reply

Yeah he should have known. But how often do middle-aged men think logically when they get bored with their family life and find someone who is interested in spicing it up. :)

The OP said "ok Brits". Just to point out that not only Brits were watching this week. I am in the US and I'm one of the biggest fans of Sally Wainwright, Red Production Co and Happy Valley there is. A silly thing like being overseas won't stop me from seeing it right away.

The world of entertainment is at your fingertips.
BTW It was freaking fantastic.

Oh and if you don't know Shirley Henderson (Tommy's friend) look at her CV. She's a great actress and can be so real and so off-the-wall bonkers scary. She came to prominence in Trainspotting.

Yea, she's a great actress and I particularly enjoyed her as Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter movies.

It was driving me crazy,as I watched the first episode of Season 2, where did I know his mistress Vicky from? I definitely had seen her act a lot because I was so familiar with her speech, mannerisms, etc. Looked her up and realized she was Gill - Scott & Bailey's boss on that show! I watched every episode of that show from beginning to end.

Then I looked up Catherine's sister, Clare & see that it's O'Brian from Downton Abbey & same show as Mosely from DA. she looks so different from the uptight O'Brien I didn't recognize her. He looks the same of course but boy did he pick a crazy lady to have an affair with.

Since I just started, I'll watch an episode every night before bed. I also subscribe to Acorn TV here in the US which shows all British shows & just finished watching the second season of Hinterland (filmed in Wales). Great show if you don't know it. Wait a sec - I think I watched it on Netflix. Between the two streaming services and PBS & BBCA, I'm watching way more English shows. Vera is currently showing on Saturdays on our local PBS but it's season 7 & I've already seen the complete season 7 (I believe).

Oh wow, O'Brien from Downton Abbey! Would never have guessed, so thanks for that. I'm also really enjoying this series too.

Very good start to series 2....and some quality actors too

I agree with the majority of comments so far, a very good start, kept me gripped and looking forward to next week. Am very interested to see how "the affair" storyline will play out - hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!

reply

Wonderfully paced and the performances were great. I was gripped throughout.

reply

Looks like it'll be cracking.

I was just thinking, Happy Valley: never fails to disturb.

As to the person who thought series one ran out of steam, to me it seems that way because never before has a show peaked so high in the middle. If they'd continued the intensity of ep 3 and 4 into 5 and 6, people might have died in real life. I recall a comment made made by a poster during series 1, that at the end of the ep with the rape attempt, their spouse spent 5 minutes screaming at the TV after the show had ended. I wasn't screaming, but I do believe fingermarks are still in the arms of the LaZyBoy.

Tommy and his gal sure are a pair. Although Mr Moseley's girl toy has more than a touch of psycho-b!tch in her. Should be an interesting next 5 weeks. ;-)
