Way too scary for young children
Its supposed to be an inspiring family film but the terrifyingly imagery is way too much for young kids. Great film but it shouldnt be marketed as a family film.

shareThis is the perfect kids movie. It teaches them real life lessons such as being strong, standing up for yourself, remaining true to your core beliefs and that not everything is as it seems. There are so many rich lessons in this film that all children need to learn
shareAnd there really is no scary visuals. It is quite sad however. The scariest visual is the first time the monster shows up and it seems as if he is going to eat Connor. Other than that I don't really remember anything that would be to frightening I am however a 16 year old boy so
shareHMMMMMM Maybe.
Lose the Game!!!!!!!
Not in the slightest. in fact the total opposite. I went through a similar situations as a kid (around 6) and was obsessed with the movie Jaws. I could never explain it until I say this movie. the monster is both a refection of the childs grief and anger AND a protection from a cruel world (the scarier the friendly monster, the less scary the world seems). this is a born classic that pushes the envelope.
I'm a contradiction
Honestly, how is this film any different than Dumbo or Bambi, all deal with losing your parent as a child.
shareLol, I saw scarier films than this as a small child. Think Child's Play, Alien/Aliens, A Nightmare on Elm Street, It, The Fly, etc.
