Why Does Poirot Look Like A Kurt Russell Cowboy Character?

Just saw the trailer. Poirot looks like a Kurt Russell Cowboy Character pretending to be a prissy Belgian French guy. Bad casting or bad makeup or both?? I just can't accept the look of him, even if I try. My suspension of disbelief keeps getting broken.

Haha, so true! I hate that ridiculous moustache. Branagh is just completely miscast. And he seems to be doing an awful job on top of that.

reply

My goodness yes. They should call the movie- Mustache on the Orient Express.

Totally agree. This type wasn't in fashion at that time. More popular were the small, well groomed mustaches.

reply

it was laughable wasn't it ???

reply

It’s intentionally over-the-top. That’s the way the character was supposed to be... at least in this movie.

Call it a Branagh thing.

The Hateful 8 Kurt? LOL!!!

reply

He looks that way because Agatha Christie described him that way. He's often portrayed with a giant moustache. This one was extra special.

The mustache was overdone. In the Poirot books and all of the other Poirot movies and tv shows he has a small, neat mustache.

It's supposed to be neat and waxed at the tops, which means something other than the kind of little pencil moustache that was popular in the twenties and thirties. Even in his heyday, Poirot was out of fashion.

But not fifrt-eighty years out of fashion, huge walrus moustaches hadn't been popular since the mid to late 19th century! I think the walrus was Branbaugh's idea of messing with people's expectations and looking different than all the other actors who'd played Poirot, and like everything else he did in this movie he did it wrong.
