I think he would be excellent in this role, he is really good at playing weird and quirky characters, he also played the detective Guy Lapointe in Tusk, a character very similar to Poirot(weird accent, eccentric manner, moustache, etc.). If he would play Poirot just like he played Lapointe, this movie will be a masterpiece:

I loved him playing Ratchett! His bits are the best for me in this film.. and his character is such an awful human
shareEven though giving subtle performances aren’t what he’s known for these days, he can still be effective in quieter roles when given the chance. His performance as Ratchett is one of his more interesting and subdued in recent years.
shareHe was really good in the role he had here. Branagh was the star and he really made the movie work. I would not have replaced him with Depp here.
