Pronunciation of Desjardins

They are totally pronouncing that name wrong. He's French, not Spanish. It is pronounced day-jar-dayn

Yes, that drove me nuts, too. It's especially inexcusable because Jean Dujardin is pretty well known in the US now because of The Artist. If you know how to pronounce his name, why would you think Desjardins was "day-har-deen"?

While I can well imagine that the locals might have anglicized the name back when the good doctor was alive, they would certainly not have hispanicized it. And you'd expect the actors, filmmakers and the woman making the docu within the film to be familiar with Dujardin.

Only a french or bilingual person could properly pronounce it and write it phonetically! The movie's pronunciation of Day-Har-Dean is ridiculous!

Yeah it annoyed me so much too. They did not even pronounce it like americans would. They downright said it like it was some spanish word. Americans IRL would not pronounce it that way. They would just say it in english with a normal J sound and that's it. The 'H' sound had NO reason to be and it was just plain annoying. I can't believe a single person on the film set corrected them. Or if they can't pronounce it right, why not just choose an easier name to say? Why did it absolutely need to be Desjardins??

reply

I know! That's what I kept thinking! As many times as it was said, and by as many different people, you would think at least someone would raise a hand and say "um . . . guys . . . "

It's french Canadian idiot.

I know this thread is old AF but I agree so much. I mean, how hard can it be to find one person that speaks French to tell them how to pronounce the name right?and they say it so often to!!
