I really liked the movie, but the end needed work.

SPOILERS

One of the main reasons as to why the original worked so well as a cohesive story was that it had closure. This is basic writing 101.

In the 1989 Road House, we see the town unite together to take down the main antagonist, and they get away with it. Satisfactory ending.

On the other hand, the only real closure in the remake is the bookstore getting money. Besides that, the writers figuratively lit a match and tossed it into gasoline.

I don't hate the remake, but refusing to make the antagonist despised by everyone was a misjudgement. It's what made the original story work.

Essentially we just have Dalton ride away in the same situation he was in before, and the town isn't better after the story either really.

The movie really needed the original ending. It needed someone like the car salesman. And it needed a Red. These characters are actually more important than most everyone else. At the very least we could have seen the bookstore girl and her dad be the ones to kill Brandt.

What a wasted opportunity.

McGregor killing Brandt was cheap as well.
