Why do so many people try to make Captain Hook a good guy?
In both Once Upon a Time and this movie Captain is a good guy. This isn't like the Robin Hood stories where its based on a legend with no identified author and no official story.
shareMany writers prefer using the idea of a good man corrupted to evil, rather than a character that chose that path from the outset. The idea is that it adds characterization to said character. Mileage may vary.
