Karen or Elektra

I'm a Karen supporter!!!!!!! Can't stand Elektra

reply

neither are that hot to be honest... but id take Elektra easily.. Karen has a great figure but that face with all those moles is just a complete turn off.

reply

Funny thing is, those moles can be removed really easily. It smarts, but the pain passes quite quickly (as soon as the technician stops spraying freezejuice) and heals quickly as well.

I can't say I hate her moles but boy are they distracting. Moira Queen's gigantic mole was a distraction, too, as is Oliver's IDENTIFYING mole south of the right corner of his mouth.

The removal leaves a little white spot (very likely to fade, eventually) but make-up would wipe that out just two weeks later.

If I'm being flippant about this, I have to admit I had a ton of moles removed once, but I'm a tough bugger who ignores pain and I was told by the technician she had never had a patient sit through the procedure silently as I had done. So maybe I'm the only person in town who thinks it's trivial but hey, I'd rather have three white spots on my face than three prominent moles that jiggle up and down every time I smiled or frowned--especially if my face were my living.

Karen. This person with Elektra's name was just a pain in the ass.

Elektra, of course. Karen is dead weight, although I will say that she would make a better couple with the Punisher.

reply

Karen. I wish I could enjoy the corny "badass" evil chick with a darkness like Elektra but it's such a gimmick I don't buy it. Also, I'm not expert on fighting but she does not appear physically able to fight those heavy men.

Elektra IS the Black Sky. That might have something to do with it.

reply

Lol she is? Yeah I only got to episode 7 and I actually change my mind. I quite like her now lol...It's because she started acting more human to me. Those moments between her and Matt are nice. Though he keeps switching his love interests he himself is sort of bugging me but oh well.

... unlike the girl-next-door damsel in distress, you mean?

Yeah since you're not an expert, you probably shouldn't speak about things you don't know then. I guess you'd shut up more than you do but it's a good thing.

Personalitywise. I'd pick a girlfriend with Karen's personality rather than Elektra's. See, if you were paying attention, you'd realize that the only reason Matt was chasing after Elektra and teaming up with her, was because she was like him: a vigilante that's equally skilled in martial arts, who also had been trained by Stick. She hurt him emotionally and lied to him many times, but because Matt is clearly a bit of a masochist, he was willing to accept her regardless, and tried to appeal to whatever good she had in her and get her to be a good person, even though things would just fundamentally never work out between them. I mean, if you've ever been with a crazy significant other, you would understand - wherein Matt knows that Elektra is dangerous and not good for him, and that she hurts him, but that he's willing to put up with it because he is sort of trapped by his love for her).

When Frank Castle described his wife to Karen at the diner, he described how badly she would hurt him. She made him feel something, even if that feeling was emotional pain. And there is something about someone who can make you extremely happy, or hurt you when they choose to, that is emotionally intense. It's so intense in comparison to having a nice, bland relationship with someone predictable, that you become addicted to it. That's Matt/Elektra in a nutshell. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Elektra functioned more like an enabler of Matt's darker aspects than someone to have a healthy relationship with.

Karen, on the other hand, has all the aspects of a healthy relationship. She's got the best elements of both Claire and Elektra: like Elektra, she enjoys the action, despite her obvious fear and inability to really protect herself. And like Claire, she is kind and caring, though obviously more consistent and less dramatic than Elektra. That's a good summary of Karen: useful, with a strong personality, one that actually supports Matt and in turn the Devil of Hell's Kitchen but not to the point of enabling him, and never quits once she sets her sights on an injustice.

I was almost insulted but then I remembered it's just a show, you're opportunist and huge dork and no expertise is needed. I finished the season and it was good.

reply

I don't really find Karen the damsel in distress so much as the reckless girl who gets herself in distress which is a flaw I think. But I like her anyway! And I ended up liking Elektra too and thought Elodie is pretty charming.

reply

This is no different than telling someone, "Shut up."

since you're not an expert [on fighting]

Do you have any estimation how many of the people on this board have no effing clue about fighting, either? And yet everyone has an opinion about it. Is that wrong?

Tell us all to shut up over that, too.

I suppose a few wrestled in high school, probably more than that have taken a year or two of karate, earning a yellow or maybe even an orange!! belt. Someone will pipe up in reply to this reply, and say, "I'm a street brawler, probably been in a hundred fights, I know all about fighting!" Whatever, there's always someone to quibble over every generalisation. But anyway, every damn one of us has an opinion, and half of us want to say "I can't understand doing such and such during a fight." You can dismiss that as uninformed blather but you can't pretend that only the experienced fighters have a right to an opinion, especially since this TV show isn't reality anyway.

Karen don't turn out so well, may as well get used to Elektra.

reply

Elektra. I like a woman who can look after herself.

reply

Elektra's a better match for Matt. But me, personally, I like Karen.

Claire Temple.

Karen is spot on, perfectly in character. However, Electra is miscast and her character is off.

I see that as an intentional move on the casting director and the writers' behalf, to remind us that Elektra is the kind of woman who will cause nothing but trouble for Matt.
